Just wanted to drop in quickly to wish my LJ friends all the best for the New Year. May 2016 be full of good things and joy for you and yours! :)

Now to wait four - technically three, seeing as it's after midnight - more days for the cinema screening of the SherlockSpecial! I can hardly wait...

I received two more holiday cards last week: one from [livejournal.com profile] saura_ and a postcard from Hobbiton from [livejournal.com profile] shirasade. Thank you both! I hope you had lovely holidays too! :)

I am late in mentioning that I got two more holiday cards last week, by [livejournal.com profile] suzy_74 and [livejournal.com profile] textualdeviance (Love the picture of the bug!). Thank you! :)

Good luck

to all Brits in the path of St Jude! I hope the storm won't create too much damage and everyone will be safe. *hugs*

To those who celebrate it - and to all others, I hope you're having a great Monday! :)

PS: Just had lunch with the always lovely [livejournal.com profile] lilithlotr - first time we've seen each other in almost 4 years, and it was great to reminisce and catch up! Hopefully we'll be able to do that a bit more regularly from now on. :D

PPS: Might as well add this here, instead of a separate post:

I got a late Christmas card from [livejournal.com profile] suzy_74 - thank you, dear, and have a wonderful Happy Birthday today! :D

At long last, I also received the parcel my Mum sent by priority mail on December 10 or 11, and which should have taken 1, maybe 2 weeks to get here! I had almost given up on it, but thankfully it turned into a case of 'better late than never' and not 'lost in transit or nicked by someone passing by the parcel waiting outside the apartment door'. I really would have hated to miss out on Mum's "Nussstängel" (hazelnut bars - her signature Christmas biscuits) and the jar of sweet-sour/bitter cranberries (delicious with venison or any other meat, as well as on their own) that she makes after her own recipe with the cranberries growing wild in the mountains at home. But now I can indulge - yummy!

Sorry for being so late, but I was away and offline for a week, and I'm still catching up with all the Sherlock fic, and had a few errands to run since coming back that took up some of my time. Plus my storage bed arrived, so I've been able to move my shirts, underwear etc. from their temporary home on the bookshelf, whee!

I also received the first Christmas cards - many thanks and holiday hugs to [livejournal.com profile] primula_baggins, [livejournal.com profile] ismenin, [livejournal.com profile] honeybine, [livejournal.com profile] celtprincess13 and [livejournal.com profile] berreh! :D

Hobbiton Confidentiality Sign

File this under random Hobbit movie information of the day. If you ever wondered what the confidentiality sign looked like outside of the Hobbiton set in Matamata NZ, well, wonder no more! It is pretty obvious that the Hobbit production is taking confidentiality very seriously! Click on the image above to see a larger version.

And only loosely related, but fascinating for those of us who are interested in anthropology etc.:

File this under weird science news of the day. As many of you know, the larger than life Eagles in Tolkien’s Middle-earth, tend to be a bit more noble-hearted than the birds mentioned in this real-life story. As we learned in 2003, hobbit sized humanoid fossils were found in the Liang Bua cave on the Indonesian island of Flores. News reaches us recently that these poor Hobbit-like humans may have been hunted by extremely large, stork-like birds. Birds that stood nearly 6 feet tall!! Let’s just say, this reporter is happy those birds are not around today. To read the full story, check out LiveScience.com. [Read More]

So here's [livejournal.com profile] _doodle's report of our fabulous encounter with Benedict Cumberbatch at The Children's Monologues afterparty! :) I spent most of the time listening to their conversation, but was perfectly happy with that - after all it's not every day you get to look at such a gorgeous man and listen to his equally/even more gorgeous voice for such a length of time! (As several of us agreed at the meetup, we'd happily listen to him reading out the phone book!) Of course I'm now paying for having stood outside in the cold with having a slight cold, but as long as it won't get any worse than it is now, I'm happy.

One little additional thing I remember Benedict saying about his Monologue was that "It's a bit like doing a phone conversation" in that he had to imagine the other person and their dialogue.

I'd really like to find out where and when those "social pages" appear that we were photographed for! We think the photographer picked us because we were among the most dressed up people there! :)

Got back to my hotel a short while ago and am completely knackered, but had a wonderful evening! Met some familiar faces and some new ones at our little meetup prior to the show - sadly not enough time to talk to everyone, and we were short two people, one announced, one unannounced. I hope everyone had a good evening! The play was very impressive and powerful - and my hat off to all the actors who participated, because they only had eight hours today to rehearse with director Danny Boyle! Afterwards, [livejournal.com profile] _doodle, her friend Laura and me headed to the afterparty (we were the only ones from our group with gold tickets), and we got the book from our goodie bag signed by Benedict, and pics with him! He was so lovely! Afterwards we hung around the bar, discreetly admiring the view ;) until Benedict left, and then headed to our respective hotels too.

Will have to write down a few more details (and post the pic of me & Mr. Cumberbatch) after I've had some sleep (which means sometime after I got home, i.e. tomorrow night or Tuesday), as I'm almost yawning my head off - [livejournal.com profile] _doodle, I'll probably need your help to fill in the gaps!

Now I better roll into bed before my head hits the keyboard... night night!

Off out

Have a good weekend!

Didn't have time to do more than superficially scan my flist yet, but I wanted to stop by quickly to wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Hope it started as wonderfully for you as it did for me. :D

I found some late-arriving Holiday cards in my mailbox today - thank you so much [livejournal.com profile] celtprincess13, [livejournal.com profile] claudia603, [livejournal.com profile] selmak, [livejournal.com profile] suzy_74 and [livejournal.com profile] westmoon! I hope you're having a relaxing time with your loved ones!

And I realised that it's been ages - almost a year?! *blush* - since I posted my LJ comment stats - so here's the roundup of the year... :) Don't anyone DARE feel bad about not having commented much since last time - I wasn't very good about it either (and that's putting it mildly)!

May you walk the white shores and the far green country beyond with Frodo, [livejournal.com profile] lorie945, both of you free of suffering and pain at last. I mostly knew you from your wonderful stories and through our various common friends, and I know you fought bravely until the end. I am glad to hear that you were able to leave in peace, and with your loving husband by your side, and I'm also glad I was able to help bring you a little joy in those dark times by participating in "For Lorie". Reposting the link to my contribution, The Hobbit and the Storyteller.

The plan was to install my new harddisc on the desktop computer at home, over the weekend. But no thanks to a rather nasty little draft that started as soon as one of the windows in our office was open last Thursday and Friday, I ended up with a cold which left me pretty much useless for the whole weekend. So I spent most of the weekend in front of the TV, watching all of Firefly and then Serenity, the latter with commentaries. And therefore I'm still computer- and internetless at home. Feeling better today (though tired, due to not sleeping properly these last nights) but now of course I'm coughing, and a very dry cough too, for which I'm taking tissue (mineral) salts. I'll see how soon I'll feel up to working on the computer - possibly tonight, possibly not.

Last but very much not least, if you have good vibes and/or healing thoughts to spare, please send them [livejournal.com profile] ismenin's way, who's in hospital due to breathing problems.

Thank you [livejournal.com profile] claudia603! *hugs* You're right, it is almost as green as New Zealand - just a bit of a different green :D Dang, with what the weather has been like here lately, I'd really like to hop on a plane and join you... Alas, I'm a good girl and will plod on.

Speaking of which, just an FYI that I'm not ignoring those commenting on my entries, nor those on my flist posting. I will try to catch up eventually but the whole transition from old job to new job thing (mostly the former) has me pretty exhausted. Only one more month! Of course then I'll have to get used to working full time again, which should be interesting, eep! Oh well, my NZ budget will thank me.

I really like Lynn Flewelling (author of the "Nightrunner" books, for those who don't remember from my previous entries about her/them). Recently she asked for fan questions she could use in a podcast to be recorded shortly afterwards. Since she didn't really get to use them, she's now answering a few questions each day in her LJ, [livejournal.com profile] otterdance. Her replies are very interesting! Was leafing through the first three books in the series the past couple of nights, and I am looking forward to the release of the fourth one, "Shadow's Return", something fierce. Is it June 24th yet???!!! *she asks for the umpteenth time*

Oh and I ordered the refurbished Creative Zen player I mentioned in last night's entry, plus a protective skin. Can't wait for my new toy to arrive! \o/

Does PJ have a last-minute replacement on every film? Viggo replaced Stuart Townsend on LotR, on King Kong Howard Shore was replaced by another composer whose name I can't remember now... :)

Gosling Leaves, Wahlberg Joins ‘Lovely Bones’
October 22nd, 2007 by xoanon | Discuss

Variety is reporting that Ryan Gosling has been replaced by Mark Wahlberg as one of the leads for Peter Jackson’s ‘The Lovely Bones’. The last minute swap culminated in a week long delay in principle photography (and may very well explain it). Gosling and Jackson reportedly parted ways due to ‘creative differences’. Filming commences today in Philadelphia, PA. From Variety: One day before shooting began, Mark Wahlberg stepped in to replace Ryan Gosling in “The Lovely Bones,” the Peter Jackson-directed adaptation of the Alice Sebold novel for DreamWorks.

In more serious news, I hope everyone on my flist who lives in the areas of California affected by the fires is safe, and their families and friends too! *everything crossable crossed for the wind to stop and rain to fall soon*

For those among you having a difficult time. I may not always comment on your entries because I'm not good with words that way and often don't know what to say that doesn't sound like some platitude, but I can assure you that I do care, and this song expresses perfectly my very simple, but nonetheless heartfelt wish for you all:

Debbie Jeffrey - Joy

I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
I wish you everything
You ever dreamed of
I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
You know it's everything
To be where you are

I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
I wish you blue sky
And all you dreamed of
I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
You know it's everything
To be where you are

Yes I will take you there
I'll take you to the place
That I once knew
Yes i will take you there
You will find your faith
Is all brand new
When your heart is cold
And you feel alone

I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
I wish you everything
You ever dreamed of
I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
You know it's everything
To be where you are

Yes I will take you there
I'll take you to the place
That I once knew
Yes I will take you there
You'll know where you are
Is where you wanna be
When your heart is cold
And you feel alone

I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
I wish you everything
You ever dreamed of
I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
You know it's everything
To be where you are

Ooh yeah

Follow me I'll take you there
On my way I'll show you where
Follow me I'll take you there
On my way I'll show you where

I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
I wish you everything
You ever dreamed of
I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
You know it's everything
To be where you are

I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
I wish you everything
You ever dreamed of
I wish you joy
I wish you heaven
You know it's everything
To be where you are

I wish you joy...

Home safely from St-Ursanne. Had an utterly lovely day with [livejournal.com profile] shirasade except for one big disappointment due to mismanagement of the queue. Will write organizers about it. Details and pics ♥10xzoom♥ soon, hopefully tomorrow. Shattered after many hours on the train. Night night! *crawls off to bed*

ROTK Complete Recordings Out this Fall?

9/01/07, 11:17 am EST - Xoanon

Howard Shore's official site has an intriguing image in the news section. It states 'ROTK Complete Recordings Coming Fall 2007'. Anyone with more news about this should drop us a line!

The image in question can be found on the bottom right here. omgyespleeeeeeeeeeeease!!!

Also via TORn, for those who have read/are reading/are interested in Kristin Thompson's book "The Frodo Franchise", she has started a blog. Read more... )

Will meet up with [livejournal.com profile] shirasade tomorrow to go see John Howe's exhibition in St-Ursanne, and to get his autograph - and Alan Lee's. *bounce* It will mean spending most of the day on the train, but I'm very much looking forward to it, also because St-Ursanne is a medieval town, so I hope I'll have time to take a few pictures with my shiny new camera - also of the statues they have put all over town, based on John's artwork. You can read John's thoughts on the end of the all-summer exhibition and series of events at his blog.

I just hope that the headache I woke up with today will have gone by tomorrow morning. That would be hell on the train. If it's not gone by sometime in the evening I guess I'll ask my sister if she could give me a brief Bowtech treatment - that always helps.
