Yup, got some big news!

New official Hobbit poster and trailer debut details! (Dangit, they had to go and schedule this at the exact same time as my graduation ceremony??!!)

Don't know whether that invalidates this item, but we'll find out on the 12th, I guess!

Daniel Reeve's Map of Middle-earth is well known to fans of The Lord of the Rings.

The Shire, Rivendell, Lorien, Rohan, Fangorn, Gondor - they are all there, the familiar milestones along the Fellowship's journey to Mordor, exactly as seen in the films and in the DVD extras.

This map is a direct scan from the original map hand drawn by Daniel Reeve.

Printed right here in Middle-earth (New Zealand) on high quality parchment paper with die-cut deckled edges.

The map comes rolled in a sturdy tube to ensure it arrives in pristine condition.

And last but not least, some sad news:

Legendary sword master, Bob Anderson, dies

It's not surprising - he was 89 already - but it still makes me sad. Bob Anderson is someone I would have loved to meet/seen at a convention panel. I've always loved sword fights - realistically choreographed ones as in LotR, not the cr*p they had in Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief for example - and he has worked on so many projects! It wasn't meant to be. But this reminds me I still need to get Reclaiming the Blade... Goodbye, Mr. Anderson, and thank you for all the enjoyment you've given us over the long years of your career.

Peter Jackson posted the following on this Facebook page a couple of hours ago:

Hi everyone! This year is the tenth anniversary of the release of The Fellowship of the Ring, and we wanted to give the fans a Christmas treat ahead of the release of the two Hobbit movies in Dec 2012 and 2013. Stay tuned for more. Cheers!

Eeeh! Can't wait to find out what it is! :D

An unnamed spy sent us this YouTube video of the WETA ad that was played at the beginning of the extended LOTR editions in cinemas. Take a look! Some old friends in those clips!

As some of you may have heard already, AMC theatres will show the three LotR EEs over three weeks in June, in celebration of the upcoming release of the EE Blu-rays. TORn just announced that they will send a private ticket sale offer to their newsletter subscribers! This means you will be able to reserve your tickets a full 5 days before the general public has a shot! There "may" also be a special video from Peter Jackson before the screenings. More info here.

48 Frames Per Second
by Peter Jackson on Monday, 11 April 2011 at 20:12

Time for an update. Actually, we've been intending to kick off with a video, which is almost done, so look out for that in the next day or two. In the meantime, I thought I'd address the news that has been reported about us shooting THE HOBBIT at 48 frames per second, and explain to you what my thoughts are about this. [...]

ODQ here with your long overdue Hobbit update. ;) Not that there has been much in the way of real news, of course, but here are a few tidbits that might be of interest.

First of all, the LotR Trilogy EE Blu-ray Edition is available for pre-order. As you can see from the press release, it contains all the extras of the Extended and Limited DVD releases, but no new material.

Speaking of those extras - sadly Costa Botes won't be filming behind-the-scenes material for The Hobbit.

Fans of LotR Calligrapher/Artist/"Map Guy" Extraordinaire, Daniel Reeve, may be interested in this new map of Wellywood that he created for Wellington Rover Tours! A limited number are available for NZ$24.95 plus NZ$7.50 shipping and handling worldwide, and if interest is there, more might be made available.

Howard Shore has had a first discussion with PJ on the Hobbit score, according to Doug Adams. \o/

Ian McKellen has made several updates on his Hobbit Blog.

TORn has first (blurry) spy pictures from the set, here and here.

And last but not least, check out how dashing three dwarves and a hobbit can look (WOW, Martin!!! Now I want to see John Watson wear a tux in a future Sherlock episode!) in this report about the opening of the Roxy Cinema in Miramar. Contains bonus PJ in a Rocketeer costume - and click on the "next" link beneath the photo to see more images featuring (among others) Roger Taylor and Tanya Rodger, Jamie Selkirk, and Ian McKellen.
