mews1945's Of A Hobbit And A King (Frodo/Eomer, set post-quest in Minas Tirith) last night (and as a consequence went to bed later than I should have) and also this morning over tea (an as a consequence narrowly missed my bus for work - thank goodness they run frequently!). When I walked up to the bus stop afterwars, for a moment I was suddenly overcome by this vivid memory of standing on the Pelennor - that vast field of grass under an endless sky, the street hidden from view by the high grass and everything so silent that you could easily imagine being in Middle Earth for real - looking towards the hill from which the Rohirrim rode down, and like so many times on that trip, feeling both awed and at peace.
I am so grateful I got to go, but I still wish it wasn't so far away...
