My CD of Heloise & The Savoir Faire's "Trash, Rats and Microphones" arrived in the mail today. Two thumbs up! I really like Heloise's voice, and of course their music is a throwback to the 80s (of the good kind), so how could I not love it? :D

Friends List of the Ring :D

ETA - for those interested, this just in from Yep Roc Records:

Heloise & the Savoir Faire's Trash, Rats and Microphones available for pre-order with bonus tracks
[Listen | Buy]

Pre-order Trash, Rats and Microphones at the Yep Roc Web Shop and receive the bonus track "I Think You Suck." The DRM-free MP3 will be be available in your Stash as soon as you place your order!

With a live show described by Disorder Magazine as a "multi-orgasmic experience with heels on," Heloise & The Savior Faire have gained popularity in the UK after making their TV debut on The Graham Norton Show. An electrified collision of late-70's disco-infused dance punk and 80's synth-pop, the band is fronted by the charismatic Heloise Williams and backed by two electrifying dancers (Joe Shepard and Sara Sweet Rabidoux) as well as a full band (James Bellizia on guitar, Luke Hughett on drums and Jason Diamond on bass). The Times UK has described them as "somewhere between Goldfrapp and The Scissor Sisters."

The album features guest vocals by Debbie Harry who recently called Heloise & The Savior Faire her favorite underground band in The New York Times Style Magazine. Harry is featured on the songs "Canadian Changs" and "Downtown.

An hour of Linkin Park videos on MTV - that's Christmas! :D

Got some lovely gifts *huggles to [livejournal.com profile] serenitysangel and [livejournal.com profile] kneonlight* and Christmas cards. And apparently I have one more gift on the way, heee! Back to work tomorrow for two days - boy, I woke up at 4pm today, so I certainly hope that I can go to sleep tonight at a somewhat decent time! Hopefully it will be quiet enough at the office that I can catch up with some stuff, and clean up my files and folders a bit.

The people at MTV.com are speculating about the possible cast for The Hobbit - obviously contains some spoilers.

Oh, and it seems unsure when the RotK Complete Recordings CD will be available again... *sigh* At least I found a download that will tide me over!

Hope you're all having a wonderful Christmas time!

Oh, and for all those who have read the "Nightrunner" books - Lynn Flewelling posted a Holiday Snippet from the upcoming fourth volume in the series, "Shadow's Return" - is it July yet???!!! *whimper*

Argh I hate these mini migraine attacks - now of course I totally lost track of what I wanted to do. Oh well, it will come back to me eventually...

I have the distinct feeling that this week will be not only stressful as in amount of work, but also as in it will cost me an indistinct amount of nerves. Ooh yes, and That Time of the Month (TM) is also looming near... perfect!

At least I can snuggle into my lovely soft possumdown (opossum fur and merino wool mixture) jumper from New Zealand. Speaking of which - go download/listen to the podcast of Doug Adams, who wrote the liner notes and the annotated score for the LotR Complete Recording CDs. Some interesting little tidbits and at the end he mentions the upcoming (in November 2008 probably *sob*) book about the LotR soundtrack. I wonder if the rarities he mentions will be included on CD?! Otherwise it wouldn't really make much sense talking about them in the book. Eeeh! *crosses fingers*

Still behind on comments etc., sorry. I'm just all over the place right now.

omg I can't even read the ROTK Annotated Score without tearing up...

Please please please let the CD arrive quickly...

Fabulous review of The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - Complete Recordings at tracksounds.com.

Excerpt from the author talking about the third disc:

Travelling through the tracks of this disc is a true roller coaster as we feel the despair of Denethor, then the triumphant charge of the Rohirrim, to the darkness of Frodo and Sam's travail through the plains of Gorgoroth. Once again the producers do not leave us alone and defenseless before the great hordes of Sauron, but instead end the disc with uncertain triumph in "For Frodo" By far, the exclusion of this piece was my greatest disappointment with the original soundtrack, but now we have that blessed, choral statement of the fellowship theme! I could die a happy man with that brief moment reverberating in my ears and soul...but of course the story does not end there.

GAH! I really hope that package will arrive quickly...

This is just in from George, moderator of the (official) John Barrowman mailing list, and I assume it should appear on John's official website very soon:

Well after months of my dodging rumors and queries to which I had to keep silent but UNTIL NOW!!! I can happily, giddily announce the following :

John Barrowman releases his highly anticipated album Another Side on November 12th out on Sony BMG.

Another Side is a collection of songs that John has long admired and wanted to reinterpret in his own distinctive way. Across a number of musical genres, but predominantly sumptuous, streamlined pop, he lends his rich vocals to, amongst others, Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time", Elton John's "Your Song", and Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now". His rendition of Billy Joel's "She's Always A Woman To Me" is velvet and sensuous, as is his heartfelt interpretation of All Out of Love.

I am VERY curious for this album! :D

Whee!

My Kill Hannah CD ("Until There's Nothing Left of Us") and my Blood books (the omnibus editions) by Tanya Huff have arrived! I won't lack reading material anytime soon, what with the first book of the Night Runner series I bought in London, on recommendation of [livejournal.com profile] samena, and some non-fiction books I've had for a while and still haven't finished.

God I love this song...

Cash's 'Personal File' ready for eager public

By Chris Morris

Two new titles by top contemporary country acts, Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" and Toby Keith's "White Trash With Money," slugged it out for No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week. But elsewhere on the chart, Johnny Cash continued to abide.

"The Legend of Johnny Cash," the multilabel career retrospective devoted to the late country icon, rests at No. 24 this week; the package, issued late last year, has sold more nearly 1.6 million copies. Cash's catalog remains on fire: "Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison" has scanned more than 200,000 units since the fall and is still a fixture in Amazon.com's top 10, while last year's boxed set "The Legend" has moved 125,000 units to date.

Expect a new wave of interest in Cash next month: On May 23, Columbia/Legacy will release "Personal File," a two-CD set of previously unheard solo material, recorded by Cash from 1973-80 and culled from the musician's studio vaults.

Doors celebrating 40th anniversary with busy slate

By Melinda Newman, Billboard

As the Doors' surviving members gear up for the band's 40th anniversary -- with plans for a comprehensive boxed set, reissues, merchandise and an interactive Las Vegas attraction -- there is a possibility that their music may be used in commercials for the first time.

It almost happened in 1969, when drummer John Densmore, guitarist Robby Krieger and keyboardist Ray Manzarek agreed to license "Light My Fire" to Buick to advertise its German-made Opel. Singer Jim Morrison, who was out of town for the meeting, vehemently disagreed, and the deal never came to pass. From that point, Densmore has opposed commercial usage, although Krieger and Manzarek have opened up to the possibility.

All deals, licensing and otherwise, must be approved by all partners in the Doors' assets: The three surviving members have a 75% share, and Morrison's families and his late girlfriend, Pamela Courson, share the other 25%.

My Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings Complete Soundtrack has arrived!!! *bounce* The box (which is much thicker than I had expected) and the booklet are GORGEOUS! Ah, now the long wait begins for the other two... oh and there will be a book released this year, "The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films", with even more information about the music! *bounce bounce bounce*

ETA: OMG!!! The full Hobbit drinking song of Merry and Pippin is included, as well as the full version of "The Road Goes Ever On", and it seems that the Lay of Beren and Luthien as sung by Viggo is included too, since they list Viggo among the cast performers, and also Ian McKellen though I don't remember him singing...? F***ing AWESOME!!! *more bouncing*
