Stars follow 'The Road' to Presque Isle

BY GERRY WEISS

If you happen to see Viggo Mortensen on the streets of Erie this week, it's not a mirage.

The "Lord of the Rings" star and Academy Award-nominated actor will be at Presque Isle State Park on Thursday, shooting critical scenes for the major movie production of "The Road."

Mortensen, as well as actor Guy Pearce, who starred in "L.A. Confidential" and "Memento," will be here with a film crew of 75 to 100 members, said Andrew Ullman, location manager for "The Road."

The shoot at Presque Isle is scheduled to last about six days, not including weekends, wrapping up on May 1. The cast and crew will stay in hotels in the Erie area throughout filming before heading to Conneaut Lake Park for a two-day shoot on May 2 and 3.

"The Road," an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, is scheduled to be in theaters nationwide in November.

ETA: Charlize Theron is in it too as Viggo's wife, plus Robert Duvall (rumoured, according to IMDB), and it's the same director who did Guy's film The Proposition - whoot! /ETA

In non-news, yet more snow and, I estimate, about four hours of +/- "good" sleep. Oh and I have an End of Course Assignment to deliver by Friday noon (UK time), in other words Friday morning before work, and haven't had been able to wrangle up the energy/concentration to work on it at all so far, except for looking at it. Will be an interesting three evenings...

Filming of 'The Road' leads to Pittsburgh
Wednesday, January 16, 2008
By Barbara Vancheri, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Apocalypse, here we come.

Pittsburgh has landed "The Road," a big-screen adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy best-seller of the same name that will star Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and a young Australian actor named Kodi Smit-McPhee.

2929 Entertainment, which is producing the movie, and the Pittsburgh Film Office yesterday confirmed rumors "The Road" will shoot in Southwestern Pennsylvania for eight weeks starting in late February to take advantage of the cold and snow. The film also will spend a week in Louisiana and a week in Oregon.

The movie is budgeted at under $30 million and will feature 15 or so speaking roles along with background players. It is set to arrive in theaters at the end of the year.

Looks like Guy will only come in late in the movie - I hope he'll have some good screen time though - and with Viggo, 'cause it would be great! And Charlize Theron too, eh? Plus the director of The Proposition, which I liked a lot - sounds like a great combination to me! Now of course the question is which way the writer's strike will influence the start of shooting.

FINALLY!

Only just now was able to get online for the first time today - for some reason I just couldn't connect to any of the wireless networks that are in the area, be it with my computer or my laptop. Neither could my sister who lives next door. Very weird! I hope whatever the problem was is now gone for good.

And I found some great news in my e-mail: Stingray is finally coming to DVD!!!! Nick Mancuso all mysterious, wearing a leather jacket driving around in that gorgeous black Corvette Stingray! *whimper* It will be released in about half a year only, but at least it's finally coming! Guess that means Amazon.ca will be getting business from me! ;)

While I was unable to get online, I used the time to catch up on some downloads. First was First Snow with Guy Pearce and William Fichtner *winks at [livejournal.com profile] serenitysangel. Interesting film with a slow buildup - sometimes borderline too slow, but the performances are good, and of course Guy looks gorgeous. And talk about an ending left open to the interpretation of the viewer! Now I have a craving to watch The Proposition again...

Then it was the Captain Jack episodes of Doctor Who's first season. Lots of fun! :D I really can't wait for the second season of Torchwood!

Right, off I go to catch up on my flist now...

A meme...

Behind the cut because it's big: The colour of my soul )

Not too bad, I guess. (If you can't see the text, highlight the part between the title and the images.) It's not like I don't have enough to do - but I can't concentrate on anything for too long. At least today is better than yesterday (both in ability to concentrate and sleepiness); I even sorted through my pile of invoices, credit card receipts etc! However I haven't downloaded the pics from my trip yet, and also haven't finished commenting on entries from the past week. But I just had a lovely hot bath, so things are good. ;)

Tomorrow I really will have to go out and get some shopping done - my fridge looks very empty... But I did throw together two proper meals today, which is a rarity for me particularly on days off! Thank goodness I finally remembered that I can use my steamer to cook rice - this way there's no risk of it burning, which means I can make it more often. You see, I have a habit of setting something cooking then wandering off, and losing track of time over it. Hey, at least I haven't managed to ruin any pans so far!

I want to do some beading but all projects I am considering require size 11 seed beads. Well guess what - that's not an easy size to find around here. Guess I'll have to put in an order with Shipwreck Beads in the not too distant future...

Oh yes, a funny coincidence: Last night I saw on IMDB that Guy Pearce was born in Ely, Cambridgeshire/UK... I changed trains there on my way from Thetford to London City airport last Thursday! *giggle*

And herewith ends this pointless post. Aren't you glad? :)
