‘Hobbit’ Scripting Has Begun!
August 18th, 2008 by Calisuri | Discuss

Ringer forum member Elven reports:

“Ive just got home from an early screening of Hellboy II The Golden Army hosted by PopcornTaxi at the Greater Union Cinema in Sydney, where Guillermo did a telephone Q & A from Berlin after the film…The last question though related to the Hobbit - and Guillermo said that although there was nothing to add at the moment - he can say that scripting has started - and he described the process as something ‘beautiful.‘”

Plus swordsmith Peter Lyon is hoping to return to Middle Earth.

Also, omg I'd LOVE to see John Howe's presentation at the Edinburgh Book Festival this coming Saturday: If time allows, we’ll show a presentation too of the LOTR film sketches, most of which have actually never been shown anywhere, so it should be good fun.

Night night!

227 pics from the Saturday are now online!

Unfortunately it was very difficult to get decent pictures of Andy because he was constantly moving, so most of him are slightly blurry, but there are a couple of decent ones.

Two down, one more to go... :)

PS: I also put up the pictures from the event on 2. September 2007 with John Howe and Alan Lee in St-Ursanne, Switzerland here and from the (Green Street) Hooligans premiere (with a side of Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion) at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2005 here.

Home safely from St-Ursanne. Had an utterly lovely day with [livejournal.com profile] shirasade except for one big disappointment due to mismanagement of the queue. Will write organizers about it. Details and pics ♥10xzoom♥ soon, hopefully tomorrow. Shattered after many hours on the train. Night night! *crawls off to bed*

ROTK Complete Recordings Out this Fall?

9/01/07, 11:17 am EST - Xoanon

Howard Shore's official site has an intriguing image in the news section. It states 'ROTK Complete Recordings Coming Fall 2007'. Anyone with more news about this should drop us a line!

The image in question can be found on the bottom right here. omgyespleeeeeeeeeeeease!!!

Also via TORn, for those who have read/are reading/are interested in Kristin Thompson's book "The Frodo Franchise", she has started a blog. Read more... )

Will meet up with [livejournal.com profile] shirasade tomorrow to go see John Howe's exhibition in St-Ursanne, and to get his autograph - and Alan Lee's. *bounce* It will mean spending most of the day on the train, but I'm very much looking forward to it, also because St-Ursanne is a medieval town, so I hope I'll have time to take a few pictures with my shiny new camera - also of the statues they have put all over town, based on John's artwork. You can read John's thoughts on the end of the all-summer exhibition and series of events at his blog.

I just hope that the headache I woke up with today will have gone by tomorrow morning. That would be hell on the train. If it's not gone by sometime in the evening I guess I'll ask my sister if she could give me a brief Bowtech treatment - that always helps.

Dom will be at LFCC in London on 2. September, while I'll be here, for the autograph session with John Howe and Alan Lee! I guess at least now there's hope that Dom will be doing more conventions again...

Back from Lucerne. Actually I have been back for the last 8 hours and roughly 25 minutes already, but spent them in bed and then in the bath, because I didn't sleep well at all last night. The LotR Symphony was amazing though! Quite a lot of the time both [livejournal.com profile] shirasade and I had goosebumps - right at the beginning for example - and oh yes there were tears in my eyes at several points during the concert too. I have to say thank goodness the female soloist's rendition of "Into the West" didn't make me feel as weepy as the original does, or I'd have been sobbing instead of just teary. :)

Oh, and before the concert, when we walked through the entrance hall towards the stairs (we were on the 4th balcony), John Howe walked past us! Obviously he was also there to listen to the Symphony. That was actually the second celebrity sighting we had that evening, because earlier while we were looking for a restaurant with normal priced food for dinner, we saw Kurt Aeschbacher, one of the more prominent and long-lasting TV personalities in Switzerland.

Right, I better go look for some dinner before I keel over...

I updated my last entry with the rest of the Karl article. Interview. Questionnaire. Thing. Including two more large gorgeous pictures, and a tiny one, if you need more incentive! ;)

Night night!

Pssst... [livejournal.com profile] shirasade, check out the fourth item in the news from yesterday (in French or English, it's not available in German yet) at http://www.johnhowe2007.com/!!!

A film about Glastonbury!

Found it by way of the website for the in-production documentary Reclaiming the Blade - narrated by John Rhys-Davies, and featuring John Howe, Bob Anderson, Richard Taylor and probably others involved in LotR! :D

Not that I'm complaining, you understand. ;) I stumbled across a mention of this by accident this afternoon:

Saint-Ursanne La Fantastique! John Howe

This is a series of events that stretches over the whole summer - and John Howe will be present at several of them! Saint-Ursanne is right at the other end of the country from me - though the fastest train ride is only 1 hour longer than the one to Lucerne, go figure! Not sure if I can go to any of these events (the ones John Howe attends, naturally) yet, but if it's not too expensive and I can somehow schedule it in... They don't mention anything about cost on the site so far, so I sent an inquiry. :)

ETA: Gosh, that was quick! So the exhibitions have a ticket that can be bought at the door, other events will have a "normal price" ticket (for the films for example CHF 15), some will be free. Apparently tickets will be available on the website soon. I subscribed to the newsletter so I'll be up-to-date!

John Howe weighs in on PJ/Hobbit Situation

12/04/06, 6:11 pm EST - Tehanu

TORN asked artist John Howe's opinion on the Hobbit/PJ situation. Here is his response: "Quite frankly, I do think Peter is obviously the best person to do the Hobbit, because he is the only one who would not feel the weight of LOTR on his shoulders. Kind of a paradox, but another director would likely feel obliged to prolong something not originally his, or break free of it entirely, neither solution being a good one. Peter, on the other hand, can have the creator's attitude towards his own work: complete freedom to use it or ignore it."
