Nightrunner - this will be a loooong year...

Finished last night. It's so good to see the old Seregil back, finally!!! A few things that strike me as a bit odd about the end: No mention of the goodbye from Beka at all. And no reaction to the news that old Runcer is dead. I mean, he worked for Seregil for so long and kept so many secrets... Still, very minor quibbles, loved it overall. I'm very curious about that prophecy regarding Alec! And I have an inkling why the dragon bit Thero where it did... *giggle* Hopefully we'll learn more about that in Book 4? Which brings me to this post by author Lynn Flewelling on her LJ...

YOU MEAN WE HAVE TO WAIT MORE THAN A YEAR FOR BOOK 4???!!!

*distressed whimper*

Apparently her deadline to deliver the manuscript is July 31st 2007. I'd never thought it would that that long from then on to publish a book! Half a year, certainly - the editors will have a thing or three to say so that means some to and fro. But... A YEAR?!

I guess I should pray to Illior that it won't take longer... *wibble*

ETA: Cute tidbit about Seregil and his troubles with magic from the Flewelling Yahoogroup:

Didn't the Goddess (i.e. Lynn) once say that Seregil's
> magical problems were really more like an allergy?
>
> Andrea -- an old-timer who lurks a lot.
>

Hiya Andrea! Old timer indeed, too. ;-)

Yep, you recall rightly. It's the magical equivalent of being dyslexic, or color blind. He's just
that way. Magically challenged?

Lynn

N'awww! :)

And someone at the group suggested this guy as Seregil, but I agree with those who say he's more like Thero - maybe not quite gaunt enough, but still. More pictures of him.

Which reminds me, must show you who [livejournal.com profile] samena came up with for Mardus, if she doesn't beat me to it. :)

omg someone shut me up please!

ETA2: Sorry, but you should be happy that I didn't make a new post! ;) But this had me ROTFL and I thought those of you who've read the books - and I think even those who haven't - might enjoy it too! Lynn's introduction:

I thought you might enjoy this brief excusion into the back brain of your Humble Author. Flashlight, tazer, and fantod repellent highly recommended.

So without further ado, here it is. The infamous lost last chapter of Traitor's Moon. (Yes, I really submitted it) The one they said was too hot to handle! Too piquant to publish!! Too dirty to distribute-!!! Well, you get the idea.

Heh! I've been reading a series since 1990. I thought it was a triology - turned out to be a 12 book set. The last few books have been TWO YEARS apart! Now, we're waiting for the last book and the author is seriously ill.

I should never EVER pick up a book because the cover looks interesting. :)

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! Aw rats, I hope that the writer will get better and be able to finish his/her work!

I hope Lynn will continue to post monthly teasers from book 4 at least. Okay it doesn't really make the waiting easier, but it's better than nothing at all! ;)

[identity profile] forestrane.livejournal.com 2007-06-01 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I have an inkling why the dragon bit Thero where it did

I bet it's the same inkling I have.

Thanks for the link to the "final" chapter. I haven't had much time to keep reading back through the yahoo group.

As for the July 08 date. That doesn't make sense to me at all. If the last HP book could be put together and released in 6 months, why would this book take a year. GIVE ME THE NEXT NR BOOK NOW!

Well, off to read the Tamir Triad next. Which starts out with an old wizard talking about his apprentice "little Nysander"

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! :D

I only browsed a little and looked for interesting looking post titles, but haven't gone far back.

ICAM!!!!

Awww, little Nysander! I hope he's in it a bit! I will probably read my Blood books first, since I've already got them and there's no Blood Ties right now *shakes fist at Lifetime TV*, but am definitely going to get the Tamir Triad.

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
BTW, why do you think the dragon bit Thero... where it did? *giggles* I'd love to know your opinion! :D

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the Rhui'auros told him "In you we see our future, as you perceive your past in us. The dance goes on, and your kind will be made whole."

In what way are wizards not whole? Well, Nysander said the price they pay for their magic is that they are barren... :)

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes. I'd forgotten that, I'm afraid. The bite is very symbolic then. Poor Thero. And Seregil making fun of him the way he did. *secretly loves Seregil for it anyway* ;)

I wonder if this means that the change will come with Thero, or with future generations? And if it's Thero, I wonder who the lucky lady might be...

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that was so funny. *giggle* And I'm very curious too how this will play out. During book 4 Thero will still be in Gedre, but I do hope he and Beka will have a part.

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
So many intriguing things: Thero and other wizards being able to have children, and Alec's prophecy. And we'll have to wait more than a year to find out. IF we find out in book 4 at all. ARGH!

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
ARGH indeed!

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-01 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, that guy that was suggested for Seregil looks more like my image of Thero. There was a link on Lynn's site to an artist called Mathia, who had some amazing drawings of Thero. Unfortunately the link does not work anymore, and I never saved the drawings to my pc (facedesk), but it was somewhat like this. I hope I can find them again, because they were just beautiful. Maybe Lynn might know. I'll have to ask her.

There are some interesting suggestions for Seregil here. I like the third one.

And here is our perfect Mardus; Billy Wirth:

PS, since NR 4 is so long off, I suggest you do as [livejournal.com profile] forestrane does and read the Tamír triad. You'll probably finish all the books within a month, but I guarantee you they will satisfie your need for more of the Flewelling universe. Within no time at all you'll have falen for the characters, but they don't take way from the NR love.

Check out some of the art here and on the other pages. Tobin and Ki are just... you will LOVE them! I was right about NR, wasn't I? ;P

Here's some Alec & Seregil art that totally looks like Draco & Harry to me. *runs away* ;p

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-01 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Me again! I found Mathia's art!!!!!! *jumps up and down*

It's here!!!

This is the artist who made the Lucifer drawings I showed you a little while ago. I can't link directly, but if you click on Lynn Flewelling, the Thero one I meant is the second one. The other one's not there, unfortunately. Not all of the drawings I've seen before are there, I think. Too bad.

Oh, please indulge me and click on the Harry Potter link. The first one, of Harry and Snape is just divine. No Draco, unfortunately, but there's Lucius. ;) The Gryffindor/Slytherin ones are great as well.

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
Whoo, thanks! She is very talented! Actually this Thero looks a bit less like I imagined him than the other one you linked, but still it's very good. And the Alec/Seregil picture, aww!

Goodness, that Harry and Snape drawing is amazing!

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, like I said, she had two Thero drawings. The first one was more like the Azurite one, and how we picture him at first, but the other one, the one that's still on there now, was from later on in the novels, after Thero had changed and become himself. Mathia explained that on her (his?) earlier site. I think it works. Thero definitely changes and develops, and becomes the Real Him. :)

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, too bad - would have loved to see that other one! Oh well. Her art is gorgeous in any case!

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll keep looking for it. Maybe it's still around somewhere. Or I could mail Mathia about it.

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh yes, good idea!

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think I'll read the Triad once I finished the Blood books. :)

I was looking around the gallery yesterday - some of it's really well done! I love Tata's Seregil. LOL you're hopeless!!! I think I'm making an icon of Faust's other drawing - the one where Alec is holding sick Seregil. :)

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I read the Triad straight after I'd finished Traitor's Moon. I'd already ordered all three of the books, because I was SO hooked on the Nightrunner books, I wanted anything that came close. It felt a bit strange at first to be reading about different characters, but that went away in no time at all. The books are just amazing.

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
PS, HARRY/DRACO FTW!!!!!!!!!!!

;P

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL!!!

Okay, I really have to ask: What the hell does FTW mean?! Is it WTF backwards or what?

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always taken it to mean For The Win. :D

But it definitely looks like WTF backwards. ;)

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
AHA! I kept trying to deduct from the circumstances it was used in, but I never was able to come up with anything! LOL thank you!

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Diego Lema looks very much like that Thero picture from Azurite, doesn't he? Which is pretty much like I imagine him, so perfect! :D

Yes, I saw those and was like, "Ooooooh!" I was able to find more pictures of Damien Sargue last night - I think he could work! Maybe his lips are a bit fuller than Lynn describes for Seregil, but not too badly.

By the way, what do you think of Lauren Ambrose (http://www.invisionplus.net/forums/index.php?mforum=sexyredheads&showtopic=332&st=0&mforum=sexyredheads) for Beka?

Of all the girls, Beka alone had taken after her father. Freckles peppered her fair skin, and an unkempt mare's tail of coppery red hair tumbled over her shoulder as she leaned forward to clasp hands with Alec. She had rather too much of her father's features to be beautiful, but her sharp blue eyes and ready smile would never let her be called homely either.

You know, I think I'll have to make a post just about possible Nightrunner cast... *giggle*

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Diego Lema is the perfect Thero! Damien Sargue may be a tad too pretty for Seregil, and he'll have to do a good British accent, too. At least, I picture them speaking with British accents. How about Wes Ramsey for Seregil? A bit too muscular, maybe, but otherwise very good. :)

Lauren Ambrose looks like a very good Beka! And yes, you'll definitely have to do a Nightrunner cast post! I was thinking about it as well. :)

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Aaaaaahahahhaaa!!! First I was thinking, "Hmm who is this guy?" but then I googled for him and when I opened his website I realised - I've seen him before, in a film called Latter Days and in the CSI: Miami episode also featuring Sean Maher... :D Yes, he could also work for Seregil! He shouldn't look too bad as Lady Gwethelyn... ;)

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, I was just watching parts of Latter Days on my pc, after I posted that pciture. Someone sent me a copy of a download once, and the quality isn't that great, but it's good enough for me to squee over. *happy sigh* I never saw him on CSI: Miami (I'm allergic to David Caruso on that show), but I also noticed he was on Charmed. I didn't see him yet, but I'm still watching the first season. Too bad Billy Wirth's character won't make a reprise...

And yes, Wes would make a GREAT Lady Gwethelyn. :D

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to check if I still have my download of Latter Days - I think I do. Unless it's on the CD which is wonky. It's not that difficult to find a download again, thankfully.

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I could find a torrent of Latter Days, but I haven't been able to so far. Finding the DVD isn't that easy either. A total shame, because it's a great film.

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I was surprised how much I liked it! I got it from a downloading community. If I still have it/can get it again, I could upload it for you somewhere if you want?

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, he was on Charmed? Never really watched it, except the occasional episode here and there. :)

PS: It will be more than just a simple post... *giggle*

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohh, I can't wait! I'm going to a party tonight, and I'm spending the night there too, but maybe I can get on a computer over there. If not, I'll be back tomorrow afternoon.

[identity profile] ourdramaqueen.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Have fun! It shouldn't be too long until I have everything up.
