Firefox question

Since updating to Firefox 3, I can't see things like the product images in Amazon "iframe" ads (I do see the rest of the ads though, and a blank space where the image would be), or the previews of Youtube clips on my flist (again just a big empty space, but I see them perfectly well when I open that particular post). It's the same at work and at home. Does anyone have an idea what could be the cause of this and how I can rectify that? I can't find anything in the Options that seems to fit. Thanks!!!

I'm afraid not but then I've actually resisted updating as there have been problems and someone on LJ wished they had never done so but I can't recall exactly what went wrong for them. May be others will be more helpful.

Yes I heard complaints too, but I've not had any other problems, thankfully!

are you on Firefox 3.0.4? or just 3?

Not sure about work, but here at home it's 3.0.4. Huh - just noticed that with 3.0.1 on my laptop (which I've installed from my original download of version 3 back a while) it works. So I guess it's a version glitch?

I'm running Firefox 3.0.4 and I don't have those problems. I have a Mac running 10.5.5. Perhaps it's a compatibility problem with PCs?

Probably, yes. It's 3.0.4 - still worked in 3.0.1 and I hope it will be fixed by 3.0.5.

I've had a lot of issues and general weirdness since upgrading to Firefox 3. The most annoying was that I could view videos on some sites but not others. No amount of screwing around with the various settings did any good and for all I know, I made it worse.

So I began again. First, I backed up my bookmark file because losing my hundreds of bookmarks would be a tragedy of epic proportion. Then I completely uninstalled Firefox even saying no to the option of saving my settings since I figured it was my settings that were fucked in the first place. Basically, I wanted there to be no remnants of my current install to interfere with my fresh install. Then I downloaded the latest version of Firefox (unfortunately, I had to use IE for this as I had already uninstalled Firefox. Oy.) and reinstalled.

I had lots of add-ons, many of which I rarely used so I just reinstalled the two most important to me: Adblock and NoScript. As needs arise, I may acquire more but for now, I'm keeping it simple to avoid potential incompatibility. And I figure if I add stuff back slowly, it will be easier to track which add-on is causing issues.

Then I reloaded my bookmark file and tweaked a few of the privacy settings.

Everything appears to be working just fine now. I know starting again from scratch sounds extreme but it took much less time to do that than I had already spent farting around in the bowels of Firefox trying to fix it.

Well thankfully I don't have anywhere near as many problems, it's really just the one above that I've noticed, although I've heard from others that Firefox 3 was problematic. Glad you got it to work again!
