I just finished reading Johnathan Safran Foer's "Everything is Illuminated". Wow. It's hilarious in many parts - Alex's butchering of the English language is priceless, but a co-worker assured me that she's seen scientific papers by Russians which were written just like this - but especially the end is... sad isn't the right word, nor is tragic, though it is some of both, and much more. It's no easy read, with the jumping back and forth in time, and some parts I found way too meandering for my taste, but generally it is captivating. Some things are still puzzling me, and maybe it's just me, but then it is a very complex story. I guess a second read would help, after I've let this sink in for a bit.
I'm very curious how they'll adapt it to film, it can't be easy to translate this story from book to screen.
