Australian film website Senses of Cinema has a very nice overview of Peter Jackson's career, containing interesting details about his various projects.
This part just had me laugh out loud:
While nowhere near as blood-drenched as some of Jackson’s previous films, the tone of the final act of The Frighteners is decidedly sinister. Interestingly, when Jackson discovered that the film was to be rated R, he re-shot a number of scenes, such as the death of Milton Dammers, to considerably increase their levels of gore.
ROTFL!!! I guess he felt that since the film was rated R anyway, he better make the most of it! ;D

A blog entry on Variety.com about the Cannes press conference announcing "the new MGM" contains some information about The Hobbit:
Sights are also set on "The Hobbit," a two-film prequel to "The Lord of the Rings" set for Christmas 2011 and 2012.
Sloan wouldn't name the writers attached to the project, "but you can probably guess," he teased.
and:
Sloan had a four-hour dinner with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, where they laid out their vision for the dual-film prequel. "They knew every scene, every moment. We knew we had to do it with them."
So we can "guess" that PJ, Fran and maybe Philippa will be writing!!! *bounce*
