What's the world coming to?

Yesterday on my way home I got some cash at my bank's ATM, and my way to the next bus stop leads past the cinema. It's closed - nothing special, since it always is after the winter season - but what was astonishing was the sign they had put out "We'll be back on [date] with 3D and digital!"

Wow. Never would have thought they'd get 3D capability this fast! Of course I couldn't care less and it doesn't change the fact that they're still showing basically everything dubbed, so same difference for me.

The slow season here is during the school summer holidays, and for two weeks also many companies close down for two weeks. I only wonder how many screens will be converted here during that time but not if.

While I don't like it, I can understand it from a purely economical point of view. The box office success of everything that got a 3D label is pretty incredible. As mentioned before, I guess that means next year we'll see an avalanche of 3D movies.

I'm mostly surprised our cinema is doing it already now. Not that it will make a difference for me either way, as I basically don't go there anyway due to the dubbing issue. Plus I couldn't care less about 3D unless it's really necessary for the film's story to work.
