MTV Rough Cut Video with Guillermo Del Toro
April 24th, 2008 by Calisuri | Discuss

The ‘Reckoning’ is upon us! MTV caught up with Guillermo del Toro at the New York Comic-Con and got yet another snippet concerning ‘The Hobbit’ films. And is it just me, or would Ron Perlman make a perfect Beorn? Let me be the first to throw it out there that if Guillermo del Toro is in fact the director of ‘The Hobbit’ films, we can expect to see Perlman involved in some capacity. He’s a talented actor with a great range and an established fanbase in our genre. Check out the video over at MTV Rough Cut! [Click Here] (Thanks to Forum member BuckyUnderBelly for the heads up!)

'HOBBIT' NOT CONFIRMED, DEL TORO CONSIDERS 'SATURN'

Should Guillermo del Toro's 'THE HOBBIT' deal not materialize, the writer-director has other projects in the wings, including 'THE LIST OF SEVEN,' 'MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS' and a children's horror pic called 'SATURN AND THE END OF DAYS'

LOCATION: Comic-Con

THE SKINNY: While LORD OF THE RINGS fans wait for Guillermo del Toro's official announcement that he will be directing THE HOBBIT for Peter Jackson, the HELLBOY director announced a handful of films he's passionate about that would keep him busy should he suddenly find himself out of the picture. Film Buff Online reported del Toro has MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, THE LIST OF SEVEN, and SATURN AND THE END OF DAYS on his short list.

Concerning his HOBBIT directing deal, del Toro joked, "It is my personal belief that in the next four or five days it'll be like watching the end of AMERICAN IDOL with a very fat singer. In the next four or five days, we will know if we were able to conclude every legal thing that is pending for me to be able to do it or not. It can go either way, but I can assure you very soon we will know and that’s all I can say about that. I hope I get to do it."

In exchange for the Riddle-

I'll give you an answer-

I must say you guys solved my, perhaps, ill-conceived riddle quite fast (I'm ashamed, actually) and got the date and times right. Nevertheless, the powers of red tape extended the process for hours and days longer.

But now its all done-

I'm confirmed and signed as the HOBBIT (SES) and I hope to join your community form this day forth-

Now I''ll go and have a second breakfast to celebrate!

Yours Truly

GDT

FINALLY! As you know Guillermo isn't my first choice (I'd have preferred Sam Raimi), but I'm relieved that a decision has finally been made, and hopefully the Tolkien Trust lawsuit will be settled soon so they can proceed with script, casting etc.

Guillermo del Toro Chats with TORN About ‘The Hobbit’ Films!
April 25th, 2008 by xoanon | Discuss

In an exclusive interview with TheOneRing.net, Guillermo del Toro talks about Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Howard Shore, Animatronics vs CGI, the ‘tone’ of the upcoming ‘Hobbit’ films and much more!

We had the opportunity to chat with Guillermo del Toro this morning from his current HQ in London. He’s hard at work putting the finishing touches on ‘Hellboy II: The Golden Army’ and taking interviews from news outlets about that film, and the recent announcement that he’ll be doing ‘The Hobbit’ and a subsequent Hobbit sequel down the line.

First things first, YES, that is him on our message boards, he told me he intends to post there as often as he humanly can. And yes, he is as cool and approachable as he sounds. Take a look at my interview!

It's pretty long so I won't copy/paste the whole thing - you can read it at the above link - but I'll quote a few bits beneath the cut which I found note-/squeeworthy! :D

[...]

"Castle," from ABC Studios, is a comedic procedural about a famous mystery novelist (Fillion) helping the NYPD solve crimes.

Fillion recurs on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and recently wrapped the feature "Chilled in Miami."

Now if only Sean Maher would finally get another project...
