One of the places I'm most excited about seeing, of course, is the Hobbiton set near Matamata. I know I know, the hobbit holes only remained as "skeletons", but the landscape is still there and the party tree and the lake... so I can't wait to see it!

Hobbiton has a website!

You still have your pictures online, right? Have to go look at them (again)...

you can stand inside Bag End. There's a couple of feet behind you and thats about it -you turn and face outwards and there's the party tree and you are looking over the Shire. It's a wonderfully magical moment. When Ulu and I went there were still ribbons hanging from the party tree left over from filming. There was a sense that perhaps people would come back -that it wasn't over, just interrupted. I brought a tiny piece of Bag End home for Ru.

I very rarely envy anyone anything -but even though I've been, I envy this. I left part of my heart there. It is a wonderful country and I felt so at home. There are times when I actually feel homesick over the place. My mother wonders what connection I've had with NZ in a past existence!

Damn, now I have tears in my eyes - because I have that connection with Glastonbury. A psychic actually told me I used to live there in a previous life. :) And I was on the Pine Ridge reservation (and visiting other important American Indian places in the area) in 1997, and on the last day I was depressed because I almost couldn't bear to leave - even our Lakota guide asked what was wrong. Most of the time I don't feel the longing anymore. But last winter I went to a small exhibition of Lakota crafts, and when I browsed some books they had there and looked at the pictures, I just felt - well yes, homesick.

*big hug*

I ended up not going there, because apparently it costs a fortune and I didn't want to make my (non-fannish) hosts drive around even more… Well, next time! :)

Oh that's too bad! I hope you will be able to do it in the not too distant future then!

Oh, the memories!! But I never went to the Shire's Rest and I don't understand why:( Although we didn't do the Red Carpet Tour, we did do the proper Hobbiton tour which leaves from the Hobbiton Tourist Office in Matamata - but they never mentioned anything about the Shire's Rest & it looks lovely!!

I got the impression the Shire's Rest is pretty new? And yes, I was thinking how lovely it would be to get married there... :)
