ourdramaqueenWatched Indian Runner earlier - still not an easy film to watch, but Viggo is great - and I had completely forgotten that Patricia Arquette is in it, hee!
And now I am watching my Sandokan DVDs, which arrived today - aaaaaaaah it's still as good as it was back in the late 70s/early 80s, when I saw it on TV! They digitally remastered image and sound and it really looks rather good for something that dated (1976). I'm watching the original Italian version (well I'm not sure if that wasn't overdubbed too because the actors have various nationalities but no one has the slightest accent) with German subtitles, but the occasional scene is still in German, because apparently the Italian version was shortened from six to four hours - and I guess they didn't keep the audio tapes for the cut bits. Shame, but I'm still enjoying it very much. Of course, the production values were way above anything that was done on TV at that time - they actually shoot on location in India, Malaysia etc. and did try to be as historically accurate as possible. Also, Sergio Sollima who co-wrote and directed the miniseries said in the first part of the featurette that he had absolutely insisted on having an Asian man play Sandokan, because anything else was just ridiculous - hence Kabir Bedi, who at that point was a young "rising star" in Bollywood. Grazie tanto, Signor Sollima - I really could not imagine anyone being more suited to the role. Not only does Kabir have the most amazing eyes I've ever seen - though it's a very close call between his and Elijah's - and is utterly gorgeous and definitely was the original reason for my "men with eyeliner" kink... well, he's just perfect for that role! He's got the physicality and the sensuality and the intelligence and the looks and... alksdjflakjsdfaösldfad it's really not difficult to see how Marianna would have fallen in love with him! I really need to take some screen caps to share his gorgeousness... :)
