Monaghan in 'Pet' project
By Gregg Goldstein and Carly Mayberry

Feb 7, 2008

Dominic Monaghan has landed the lead role in Edna McCallion's psychological thriller "Pet" for MGM.

Monaghan will play Seth, a man who bumps into his old high school crush and quickly becomes obsessed with her. He takes her captive underneath the animal shelter where he works but soon suspects that his old flame is not who she seems to be.

Monaghan appeared on last week's Season 4 premiere of ABC's "Lost" and will star with Ron Perlman in Glenn McQuaid's period zombie flick "I Sell the Dead" for Glass Eye Pix.

"Pet," set to begin shooting in the next few months, is produced by Aaron Kaplan, Sean Perrone, Steven Schneider and Dan Katzman. MGM's Jason Weiss and Alex Ankeles will oversee production for the studio.

Monaghan ("Lord of the Rings") is repped by APA and attorney Kevin Yorn at Barnes, Morris, Klein, Mark, Yorn, Barnes & Levine.

Gregg Goldstein reported from New York; Carly Mayberry reported from Los Angeles.

Jeez, first a grave robber, now a kidnapper? I wonder if he'll ever play a "normal" role again?

This is only his second film after Lost - he still has a lot of time to play "normal" roles. :) Besides, I'm pretty sure that I Sell the Dead will not be all serious.

I'm glad to see he has something lined up. I was beginning to worry about him.

Dom is constantly working for really odd projects, or is it just me?

LOL! Well this is only the second film since he finished Lost. And I think this role could do a lot for his career, if things go well.

Oh yes! I can SO see Dom in that kind of role - he could be quite amazing in it. *crosses everything crossable for this to be successful*

Wow, I'm happy he's got a job lined up...but I'm a bit concerned about the last few jobs he's had, they're not the type of movie I'm at all inclined to see. Dang it!

I think you might find a fair bit of comdey in I Sell the Dead, at least, and I don't expect it to be a gorefest. :)

A kidnapper? Now... I have no clue what to think about that. I sure hope he'll get a big part in that and that it's a rather successfull thing. I really would like to see him doing a comedy thing.

He's the lead! :D And I'm SO glad that it's in a thriller and not a comedy - yes he's great at comedy but it's also what everyone expects of him - "Oh, he's the funny guy from LotR and Lost." This role could really open up a host of new possibilities for him.
