Don't settle, especially not for some peripheral reasons outside your own abilities. If you have the abilities or think you can (l)earn them, go for it, go as far as you can, go for the challenge. There will be a way to overcome your obstacles, and if not, you can at least honestly say that you gave it your best try.

I could have used someone to tell me that when I was in sixth grade or at least at the end of secondary school (which I think is about equivalent to Junior High here)!

That's great! I'm rather happy where I am right now too. :D

Of course I have no idea whether I'd be happy if I had followed above advice back when I was 10ish years old, but it's an advice I'd give anyone, because I've so often gone the path of least resistance instead of going for my dreams. Not anymore, obviously, or I wouldn't be in New York now! Better late than never, eh? ;)
