what I just preordered? Still have to wait until December 9th for its US release, but at least now I know that I'll be able to enjoy it as often as I like from about two months later on!

That's the kind of news you want to hear when you get up! :D
ourdramaqueen: (nz there and back again)
It's been ages since I posted any Hobbit news! Not that much has been going on while Martin Freeman was back in the UK shooting series 2 of Sherock, but I did have a few links open in my tabs a few weeks ago - and then Firefox decided to irretrievably lose all my tabs, grrr! Anyway, here are some recent signs that things are ramping up in NZ for the next leg of filming:

Hobbit crews to hit the road in convoys

October 22nd, 2011 by xoanon 0 Comments and 3 Reactions

Hobbit fans, it looks like we’ve got us a convoy – a couple of them, in fact. Two convoys, each of about 200 vehicles, will leave today from Sir Peter Jackson’s Stone Street Studios in Miramar to transport vital gear for location filming. [...]

Last but not least, according to several Twitter posts, Elijah Wood is in NZ. :) And I do believe Benedict Cumberbatch mentioned going down in a recent Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy</I. related interview... possibly in January? My brain, it is fried.

Benedict Cumberbatch beating up Tom Hardy, and getting nicely disshevelled. Well, not in real life. ;) An exclusive scene from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy courtesy of FHM - the review accompanying the clip is here.

Now excuse me while I go replay it a couple more times... *gets drool bucket ready*

Benedict Cumberbatch has been a very busy bunny lately (and will continue to be so well into next year, from what I can gather). And with the impending UK release of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, he and his fellow cast members have been in the media quite a lot. So here are a few links.

This one obviously contains spoilers:

Empire Big Screen’s Exclusive Footage Report - Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Secondly, we saw a nail-bitingly tense scene, with Benedict Cumberbatch's Peter Guillam click on lj-cut to read the brief, spoilery summery of the scene ) [...} Cumberbatch is terrific, and has more than enough screen charisma to hold his own against Oldman.

The same scene (which was one of my favourites in the book) is mentioned in The Telegraph review:

There’s a terrific extended set-piece scene involving Smiley’s young colleague Peter Guillam (Benedict Cumberbatch) brief spoilery summary behind cut again ). It’s funny, seductive and suspenseful all at once.

Benedict's performance has been praised in pretty much all reviews that I've seen so far - also in The Guardian:

Benedict Cumberbatch is mesmerising as the well-groomed gentleman conspirator coming slowly apart at the seams.

And yes, Gary Oldman is lauded too - and I haven't seen any cast member singled out negatively anywhere. The film was shown today at the Venice Film Festival, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Golden Lion! There's a summary of Benedict's questions and answers at the press conference on YouTube -the same source also has these for Colin Firth and Gary Oldman.

Too bad that they decided to push back the US release date from November to December... I get why, but omgidontwanttowaitanothermonth!!! *pouts* Well, I'm sure it will be worth it, at least!

In Third Star news, Western Edge Pictures have put together a little something special for us fans. It's nice seeing the fans and their/our efforts acknowledged so appreciatively. [livejournal.com profile] _doodle, is that your quote appearing in the fan reviews? :) The DVD will be out in the UK on the 12th - I hope it won't take long to ship to NYC!

There's some other BC related stuff but this is long enough already, so I'll put the rest up some other time.
ourdramaqueen: (tinker tailor soldier spy hand mouth clo)
I haven't shared this here yet - come to think of it, I don't believe I've even shared the teaser trailer. How neglectful of me! So:

Teaser trailer: )

Full trailer: )

Don't they look awesome?! It's most vexing that it will be released in the US in November only - two months after the UK! Benedict should get some good screentime, if they follow the book more or less (and judging from the amount of time he got in the trailer).

I did get a little BC dose last Friday, when I went to see The Whistleblower. It's a good if rather depressing movie. It certainly doesn't shed a very good light on the UN and their private contractors. Benedict only had two or three short scenes in it, and it was weird hearing him speak with an American accent, LOL. But nice to see him. :)

Then there's The Rattigan Enigma and Discovery Channel's Curiosity: Did God Create the Universe? waiting for me to watch. The former is presented by Benedict, and in the latter he again is he voice of Stephen Hawking (second time after Into the Universe) - awesome and very befitting, since he played young Hawking. :) Oh and new Cabin Pressure episodes to listen to! I actually can't remember how far I got with listening to S1 and S2, so I might as well start with ep 1.01. They're always lots of fun. I just must try not to giggle too much while on the train/street... ;)
