New Line & ‘The Hobbit’ Move to the WB? ‘Not True’
January 23rd, 2008 by xoanon | Discuss

Contrary to previous reports on IMDB there is “no truth” to the rumor that New Line Cinema’s Bob Shaye & Michael Lynne were being sacked, and all projects, including The Hobbit were moving completely over to the Warner Bros. camps. A New Line spokesperson stated via email to us today that the story was false, and they are seeking a correction on IMDB.

Also, there's a new poll on TORn - just look at the right of the above page: If it was your decision, who would you cast in the role of Bilbo Baggins for the new 'Hobbit' movies? (Pick up to 3)

By the way, the results of their Hobbit director poll are available in the poll archive - the top four are:

Fran Walsh (35%, 2375 Votes)
Guillermo del Toro (34%, 2316 Votes)
Steven Spielberg (21%, 1413 Votes)
Sam Raimi (21%, 1395 Votes)

I must say, apart from Fran (who I believe will be just as much too busy as PJ will be, if they go ahead with a 2009 shoot date) my favourite still is Sam Raimi, because he and PJ have a similar background (cheap but original horror movies that became cult, anyone?), they both have a wicked, dark sense of humour, Sam has worked in New Zealand before, and with quite a few of the people who will likely be involved behind the scenes (Hercules, Xena). The two films I have seen of Guillermo so far were Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy, and both were rather "stylized fantasy" like in look, which LotR wasn't and The Hobbit shouldn't be either. Oh well, I guess we'll see. :)
