on my balcony - a hawk-moth, to be more precise, a Hummingbird hawk-moth, according to Wikipedia. It was drinking from my Borage plant's flowers for the longest time, during which I took about 80 pictures of it from various angles and directions! They turned out rather well, so here are six of the best. What an amazing, beautiful and elegant creature!

Right, need to very quickly go wash my hair now since I'll be leaving for RingCon in Bonn tomorrow morning. Will make a goodbye post beforehand; in the meantime have a good night everyone!

Very lucky! At first I went "HUH, WTF?!" because this moth is about as big as my little finger!

LOL sorry I didn't get an occasion (apart from only seeing this after I got back. ;)

We don't have these moths here very often, so yes, a very special event. :)

I'm so glad you got a picture of it, and shared it. I have never seen anything like it, but I can see how it got it's name.

Great pics.

And it's a moth! It does look like a hummingbird. These are excellent photos. It can't have been easy to catch the little thing with it moving about so quickly.

Have fun at Ringcon.

Well it would usually hover over a certain flower a while, to get all the nectar it could, so that's when I had to snap away. I'm very pleased with the pictures too, thanks. :)

Those are extraordinary photos. I grew up with those moths and so I'm used to them but I have never been able to see what they really looked like. Until now. Thank you so much for sharing these incredible images.

Have a good trip and enjoy yourself!

Oooh really? I've seen others before, smaller ones, but don't think this particular type. It's not very often that you get to see them here, I guess it's too cool usually.

I did, thanks!
