Dear friends,

The International Whaling Commission has just unveiled a proposal to legalize commercial whale hunting for the first time in 24 years.

Countries are now deciding their first responses -- and they're watching public reaction closely. New Zealand called its provisions -- which include a legal quota for hunting endangered fin whales -- "offensive," "unacceptable," and "inflammatory." But other key nations are rumoured to be leaning in support of it. They need to hear from us now.

Avaaz has launched an urgent petition to show our leaders their people want to protect whales, not hunt, kill, and sell them. )

on my balcony - a hawk-moth, to be more precise, a Hummingbird hawk-moth, according to Wikipedia. It was drinking from my Borage plant's flowers for the longest time, during which I took about 80 pictures of it from various angles and directions! They turned out rather well, so here are six of the best. What an amazing, beautiful and elegant creature!

Right, need to very quickly go wash my hair now since I'll be leaving for RingCon in Bonn tomorrow morning. Will make a goodbye post beforehand; in the meantime have a good night everyone!

This looks like a place I need to visit!!!

For the non-German speaking people: At "Noctalis - World of Bats" in Bad Segeberg/Germany, you can see various bats in indoor replicas of their natural habitats (cages, woods, attics) and learn about them and their world interactively. Ooh look, webcams! An internship there would be very very cool - I'd love to help caring for the bats!

I wonder if there's anything like that for snakes somewhere...?

Oooh I need to go on holiday to Thailand sometime: there was just a documentary on TV about a village called Kok Sa-nga in Thailand, also known as King Kobra Village because many people there have King Kobras as pets, and some also do show fights or dances with them. And yes, they are still poisonous. The documentary was very fascinating!

Yes I'll understand if most of you won't want to come along, LOL! I've just had a fascination with snakes since I held one in my hands for the first time when I was about 14. :)
