From this Cinema Confidential interview about Pathfinder - the last question was about The Hobbit:

Q: As an alumnus of “The Lord of the Rings” films, what’s your take on the Peter Jackson situation and the probability that he won’t have any involvement with “The Hobbit”?

KARL: I think it’s always a tragedy when commerce and business get in the way of the art and creativity. I think it would be a real casualty if Peter didn’t have a hand in directing “The Hobbit.” It’ll be interesting to see. I just pray that those two parties can amicably resolve their differences. I know it looks pretty hopeless at the moment but you never know. I’m hoping Pete will be able to return to direct “The Hobbit” because the fans really deserve to have that continuity. “The Lord of the Rings” films generated over 3 billion dollars at the box office and they were just a phenomenal commercial and critical success and it would be a shame if we didn’t have this complete volume of Tolkien work translated to film by a man who has done it so well.

I couldn't agree more!

I updated my last entry with the rest of the Karl article. Interview. Questionnaire. Thing. Including two more large gorgeous pictures, and a tiny one, if you need more incentive! ;)

Night night!

Pssst... [livejournal.com profile] shirasade, check out the fourth item in the news from yesterday (in French or English, it's not available in German yet) at http://www.johnhowe2007.com/!!!

This scan is from a fairly recent Karl article/interview in New Zealand "Pulp" magazine, and the reason why it caught my eye in particular is the t-shirt:

An AIM t-shirt!!! ♥ I just can't help but wonder if he got it from Russell Means, who he worked with on Pathfinder. Russell, of course, is one of the most prominent members of AIM, and has since the early 90s apeared in several films. For those interested, check out his Wikipedia entry. I'd love to ask Karl about working with Russell! *crosses fingers that he'll come to RingCon*

ETA: For those who are interested, the rest of the article/interview behind the cut. )

Got the Unrated Director's Cut of The Chronicles of Riddick today. Some nice additional/extended scenes. In regard to Karl Urban's Lord Vaako, there's one in particular featuring him and his wife, Dame Vaako (Thandie Newton), that was extended quite significantly, and oooh am I grateful they did! *fans self* Talk about a fucked-up, kinky relationship! Cut for some more rambling including mild spoilers )

Also, a meme! Gee, why doesn't the result surprise me...? ;)

Yay, I'll go to the Second Level of Hell! )

And now for a hot bath!

Blanchett on crusade to 'Indiana Jones 4'

By Tatiana Siegel

March 16, 2007

Cate Blanchett has signed on to star in the fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" adventures.

Harrison Ford already has boarded the project, which will be produced by Lucasfilm and directed by Steven Spielberg.

With David Koepp's screenplay shrouded in secrecy, it is unclear what character Blanchett will play. However, sources said the Oscar-winning actress has landed a starring role.

Shooting will begin in June in Los Angeles and at undisclosed locations around the world. Paramount Pictures will release "Indy 4" day-and-date around the world on May 22, 2008, with a handful of territories opening the following day.

Frank Marshall is producing, with George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy executive producing.

Blanchett, who is filming David Fincher's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," next will lend her voice to Wes Anderson's "The Fantastic Mr. Fox." In addition to her Academy Award win for "The Aviator," she received a supporting nomination this year for her role in Richard Eyre's "Notes on a Scandal."

She is repped by CAA.

ETA: Damn, after reading some user comments on IMDB about Out of the Blue, I REALLY want to see this... sounds like Karl does an amazing job in it! Apparently it will be getting a limited US release on May 23rd - I hope a DVD will follow soon... There's a trailer here, but I can't watch it until I'm home. *pouts* Variety.com review is behind this cut. )

Karl Urban, Pathfinder Interview

By Troy Rogers

"Do you back your bloodline and relatives, or your adoptive family?" Karl Urban is no stranger to physical characters, havingtaken on roles in The Chronicles of Riddick, The Bourne Supremacy, The Lord of the Rings and DOOM. However, the Kiwi thespian admits to us that his latest film Pathfinder was his most physically demanding role to date. As Pathfinder gears up for an April 27, 2007 release, Karl was more than happy to talk to us about spending time with Viking lore and Indian culture plus the physicality required to play the character Ghost, a man caught between two distinct cultures during the Viking era.

More at the link - no spoilers to speak of. I'm very curious for this one, being interested in Indians. Knowing Russell Means is in it certainly doesn't diminish the attraction, plus the trailer looks good (even though I find Clancy Brown's costume rather OTT)! I doubt we'll get it here, but I hope it will not take too long to be released on DVD in the US... *crosses fingers*

I had forgotten about Comanche Moon - wasn't that done ages ago already?!

sounds very interesting. (Though apart from the fact that Vikings did find North America before Columbus, I don't know how historically accurate this is.) I really hope it won't suck. Well, even if it does I'll no doubt have to go see it (in the very unlikely case we get it here) and then get it on DVD... I mean, hello, Karl Urban topless?! It will also be nice to see Russell Means again. And Clancy Brown - as a Viking, of course. :)

Official site here, unfortunately not very elaborate.

Urban to battle in 'Pathfinder'

By Borys Kit
Karl Urban is in negotiations to star in "Pathfinder," a Viking epic being made by Phoenix Pictures and helmer Marcus Nispel. 20th Century Fox is distributing.

"Pathfinder" is a remake of the 1987 Norwegian film by helmer Nils Gaup to which Phoenix acquired the rights to in 2001. While the original followed Norway's warlike clans around the year 1000 A.D., the new version, with a script by screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis ("Alexander"), is set in North America around the same time, when Vikings inadvertently discovered the continent 500 years before Columbus.
