Concept Artist Wayne Barlowe Talks Hobbit

Poolburn Reservoir Prepping for The Hobbit? - Now I'm thinking this could just as well have to do with the next Chronicles of Riddick film, because Vin Diesel posted some pictures on his official Facebook from the recent NZ location scouting trip that looked a lot like Poolburn to me!

Certainly this entry in David Twohy's blog has to do with this recent bit of news? :D

Where in NZ could that be? I was thinking Mavora Lakes but it could also be a river, not a lake... Anyone? Bueller?

Vin Diesel Addresses Third 'Chronicles of Riddick' Movie

March 10, 2009 08:52:35 GMT

Talking about the upcoming release of 'The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena' game, action star Vin Diesel speaks about when details of 'Riddick' next installment will be outed.

And I was just this weekend looking for news at David Twohy's official site - without result, obviously, or I would have posted about it. Wheeee! That script better be good (at least as good as some of the post-CoR fic that's out there). ;) I hope that Karl, Thandie and Judi want to and can take up their roles again - any of them missing would be odd.

Diesel hopes 2009 will also bring the third film in "The Chronicles of Riddick" trilogy.

"David Twohy is writing 'Dark Athena' as we speak," says the actor. "The videogame is continuing full force. It's fun....and I'm very excited about what David is doing."

Vin Diesel Promises Two More Riddick Sequels
Published by Shawn Adler on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 3:18 pm.
Four years after his character Richard B. Riddick last graced the silver screen, and some years after telling reporters that there would be another Riddick film in his future, Vin Diesel told MTV News that he no longer thinks there will one day be a Riddick sequel.

He now thinks there will be two.

ODQ says: WTF Shawn, there was ALWAYS talk of two sequels! *rolls eyes*

I couldn't see how they'd do it next year - Vin would be busy with his Hannibal project? But maybe they could at least get pre-production started... omg they better bring Vaako back and give him a substantial role! They should take some inspiration from certain fan fic out there, hee hee... ;)

ETA: From David Twohy's blog:

Now on to ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR. Apparently there’s a petition floating around the internet that seeks to draft me as director of the next installment of the series. (It seems my old ALIEN 3 script figures into this master plan, too, in ways that aren’t entirely clear to me.) My reaction is “Hmm.” Flattering? Sure. Realistic? Not so much. See, if I’m going to spend a year of my life (and more if I write it) on the third installment of a science-fiction series, well, why wouldn’t I just do the third installment of my own science-fiction series?

Catch my drift?

*crosses everything crossable*

before I disappear for most of the evening, first to take a bath and then to start wrestling with that assignment...

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans:

While there won't be any Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and Michael (Scott Speedman), since this takes place in the dark ages, it seems that quite a few of the other characters from film 1/2 will return - including someone I'm rather excited about... cut for the cast spoiler wary ) If you want to know some more about the plot etc., check out this recent report on Fangoria.com. No mention of Craig here, but yes he's definitely involved - along with other LotR veterans like Dan Hennah (art direction) and Tim Wong (stunt performer). :D

Chronicles of Riddick:

According to director David Twohy himself (see the Nov 13, 2007 entry in his blog), there still is hope that we'll be able to follow Riddick (and Vaako, I certainly hope!!!) to the Underverse: )

WHOOOOOOO!!! Everything crossable crossed that he and Vin and Karl (and of course the other important players like Judi Dench and Thandi Newton) can clear/coordinate their schedules soon and will be able to pull this off!

Off now - later!

Got the Unrated Director's Cut of The Chronicles of Riddick today. Some nice additional/extended scenes. In regard to Karl Urban's Lord Vaako, there's one in particular featuring him and his wife, Dame Vaako (Thandie Newton), that was extended quite significantly, and oooh am I grateful they did! *fans self* Talk about a fucked-up, kinky relationship! Cut for some more rambling including mild spoilers )

Also, a meme! Gee, why doesn't the result surprise me...? ;)

Yay, I'll go to the Second Level of Hell! )

And now for a hot bath!

I was seriously considering calling in sick this morning - yup, slept badly again last night. Dozed, turned, dozed, turned, dozed... *rolls eyes* Oh yeah, and I kept dreaming snippets of Pitch Black. No, not the "monster in the dark" bits (they weren't that scary), more character interaction stuff. I felt a bit better after I had my tea this morning, though, so decided that I'd go in and I could still go home if I felt too bad. So far it's mostly okay. I guess I'll survive, then. ;)

The reason why I dreamed Pitch Black was that I saw it for the first time last night, finally. I of course have already seen The Chronicles of Riddick several times - yes, because Karl's in it :) - and have been curious to see PB since then. I must say I quite like them both, particularly the sense of humour that runs through. I also like Vin Diesel - not only from what I've seen of him in these two films, but also from some talk show appearance I happened to catch last year. He was promoting that film - sorry, can't remember the title - where he plays a mafia guy who decides to defend himself in court. Vin doesn't seem to take himself too seriously, which I always like in people. :)

*yawn* Right. Work... *sigh*

I happened upon a review of Chronicles of Riddick from the Oakland Press, which is quite amusing - I trust even for those among you who like the film, which I do - and the last few paragraphs had me in a giggle fit:

Films like "The Chronicles of Riddick" gather about them cadres of fans who obsess about every smallest detail, but somehow I don't think "Riddick" will make as many converts as "The Matrix." In fact, I owe an apology to fans of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

When Richard Roeper reviewed the current two-disc DVD of "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" on TV, I noted that a four-disc set of the movie was coming out later this year. He observed that the complete trilogy will come out on "an accordion-size set that will take up the next six years of your life." I observed that LOTR fans should "get a life."

I meant this as an affectionate, ironic throwaway, but have received dozens of wounded e-mails from Ring devotees who believe LOTR has, indeed, given them a life, and after seeing "The Chronicles of Riddick," I agree. They have a life. The prospect of becoming an expert on "Riddick," in contrast, is too depressing to contemplate.

Yes I am sometimes easily amused - especially after 1am... ;)
