King Kong ship to be sunk

February 8th, 2010 by xoanon

The director used the Venture II in his 2005 remake and later sold it to a property development firm in Wellington, which kept it moored at a wharf in the city. Ownership of the vessel has now passed to Wellington Regional Council after the company went bust, and local authorities plan to scuttle the ship in the Cook Strait on Tuesday (09Feb10), reports Radio New Zealand.

The plans have proved unpopular with residents after it was revealed the sinking will cost tax payers $23,800 (£14,875), but council officials insist the ship is becoming a safety hazard and can no longer be moored at the wharf. More..

Take a look at our Scrapbook collection of ‘Venture II’ here and here

ETA: Original LotR art from Jerry Vanderstelt on sale @eBay - a bit *cough* out of my price range... Sorry Aragorn!

Jerry Vanderstelt (of the FotR, TTT and RotK lithographs) has put two new lithographs on his eBay shop: one of the Witch King on his fellbeast, and - possibly of more interest to my flist ;) - one of Frodo and Galadriel. He's also sent out this message, which you should have received if you have pre-purchased his RotK lithograph:

As some of you may know , I have 2 new Lord of the Rings lithographs available. I have not shipped out any of the "Return of the King" orders as of yet. For those that are out of the country and have purchased the ROTK lithograph a few weeks ago , you can add to your ROTK shipment any other lithos for no additional shipping cost .
Since I will begin the mailing process on Wed PST, starting with the ROTK pre-buy I would need any additional purchase by Tue evening PST, so I can combine any new purchase or purchases to your existing ROTK purchase, and save you on any additional shipping costs. If you are interested in any additional lithographs please e-mail me at dutchart@sbcglobal.net along with your email address so that I can send you an invoice without the extra shipping charge.
Thank you again!
Here is a direct link to my store: The 2 new Lord of the Rings lithographs are sold either individually or as a bundle with a discounted price.

Just a quick post before work. I have other stuff I want to post links to in my Firefox tabs - so much stuff that it's slowing down Firefox, in fact - but just didn't have the time or energy lately. I hope this weekend though. Don't want Firefox to crash on me!

But for now just one that I snagged of TORn just now: Jerry Vanderstelt posted some snippets of his RotK Lithograph on the Sideshow forum as he is making progress - go here for the latest one (Frodo - and dead on too!), and scroll back in the thread for more.

I now (since getting a Permanent account) have the maximum of available icon spaces (197) and only had 118 filled so far. Today I finally spent some time on filling a few of these additional spaces. I've recently discovered Spanish artist Victoria Frances, and turned a few of her gorgeous pictures into icons. One of which being *points to icon*. The rest are these three:

Isn't her art gorgeous?! The picture that had caught my eye originally was this one, which obviously was the basis for the last icon above:

Check out first pics of Jerry Vanderstelt's RotK lithograph here. Here's hoping we'll see more soon! No release date yet.

Also, documentary Reclaiming the Blade, narrated by John Rhys-Davies and various people involved with LotR like Viggo Mortensen, Karl Urban, and Richard Taylor, can now be pre-ordered on DVD, featuring lots of extras.

Shore shares insights on ‘Rings’ trilogy: When director Peter Jackson asked Howard Shore to compose the score for “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy, Shore studied J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy world before beginning four years of writing music.

At a Master’s Tea Tuesday afternoon, Shore shared insights about composing, orchestrating, conducting and producing more than ten hours of music to accompany “The Lord of the Rings” films in front of more than 100 students in the Branford College common room. The Academy Award-winning composer, who also wrote the scores for “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Doubt,” among others, also told stories about working on other genres of music before his venture into cinema.
More at the link.

And speaking of Howard Shore: T-4 days until Two Towers Live in Lucerne with Howard Shore! \o/ Not sure if I should take my (pretty heavy) leatherbound edition of LotR with me to get autographed after the concert, or if I should just stick to the TTT Complete Recordings. Decisions, decisions... :)

Eeeeeeh! Jerry Vanderstelt posted a preview of the sketch/layout for his TTT lithograph, which he says should be completed in a few months:

The Fellowship of the Ring lithograph by Jerry Vanderstelt is now available for purchase in its Standard and Collectors Editions. Right now there are still *checks* 191 of the Standard and 55 of the Collectors Edition available.

TORn has a cute little story of how Mr. Vanderstelt came to get the commission for these lithographs. It seems a certain Mr. Wood is responsible, supported by a Mr. Taylor... :)

Obviously I'd absolutely love to get this amazing FotR litograph and the two that will follow for TTT and RotK... but I doubt I'll be able to afford even the standard edition! Still, I'll keep an eye on Mr. Vanderstelt's website...

ETA: I sent a mail to be added to the newsletter, and Mr. Vanderstelt just replied. Here's what he had to add, including prices for the Standard and Collectors Editions: )
