Congratulations to Sir Richard Taylor!!!

Another knighthood for Weta stable

Five Oscars and four Baftas are recognition for a body of work in the film industry, but a knighthood for Weta Workshop's Richard Taylor is reward beyond the realm of his imagination.

Sir Richard, 45, who has won the movie awards for his work with Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong, has been knighted in this year's Queen's Birthday honours list.

It comes after he was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2004, and was Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006 and 2007, among other honours.

Details and Richard's reaction at the link. I am very chuffed for him! :D

MGM begs for cash?

April 7th, 2010 by MrCere

According to this credible report from excellent Hollywood journalist Nikki Finke, MGM is asking for money and wants the cash to function as a studio and make back the money it owes to its debtholders. She says, “…Last Thursday, right before Easter weekend, MGM Management gave an 8-hour presentation in the old MGM Screening Room to the creditors.” Apparently the creditors’ questions revealed they may not fully understand the film business. Current offers in the auction of the studio are unlikely to be accepted. Credit Finke for not jumping to conclusions and admitting the next step is anybody’s guess. For our “Hobbit” centric audience, Guillermo del Toro says this is indeed an obstacle for getting a green light on the films he is ready to direct. Thanks to Sunflower from our message boards for the tip!

Del Toro was right choice for The Hobbit, says Raimi

By David Bentley on Mar 25, 09 06:47 PM

SAM RAIMI, who was on the shortlist of directors for the big-screen remake of The Hobbit, says Guillermo del Toro was a brilliant choice to make the film.

Obviously the second film will now not cover the time between the end of The Hobbit and the beginning of Fellowship of the Rings, but if you’re interested in that time period, there’s fan film The Hunt for Gollum which will be released as a streaming film on Dailymotion.com on 3rd May. You can also find the trailers and more information at http://thehuntforgollum.com

That’s it for this round - I’d have liked to add a few more, but this already took me about an hour because my laptop isn’t so much running as CRAWLING!!! *sigh*

The Fellowship of the Ring lithograph by Jerry Vanderstelt is now available for purchase in its Standard and Collectors Editions. Right now there are still *checks* 191 of the Standard and 55 of the Collectors Edition available.

TORn has a cute little story of how Mr. Vanderstelt came to get the commission for these lithographs. It seems a certain Mr. Wood is responsible, supported by a Mr. Taylor... :)

Oooooh!

A film about Glastonbury!

Found it by way of the website for the in-production documentary Reclaiming the Blade - narrated by John Rhys-Davies, and featuring John Howe, Bob Anderson, Richard Taylor and probably others involved in LotR! :D
