Elves gather at Warners

"Elfquest," the cult comic by Wendy and Richard Pini, is heading to the big screen courtesy of Warners Bros. and Rawson Thurber.

Thurber will write, direct and produce the feature, whose format is undetermined.

The original comic, which the Pinis initially self-published starting in 1978, followed a tribe of elves known as the Wolfriders in their attempts to survive and link with other dispersed elves on an Earth-like planet with two moons while on the lookout for tribes of humans and trolls, both of which acted as allies and enemies.

The series -- which at certain points in its history was published by both Marvel and DC Comics -- attracted a more mature audience as it went along, with scenes of battles and sexuality that were intense for that time.

Hollywood has long tried to adapt the series, and several attempts at an animated series or feature have been made over the years.

Courtenay Valenti is overseeing for Warners.

CAA-repped Thurber, a commercials director, broke through into features with the 2004 Ben Stiller hit "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story." He also wrote and directed "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh," an adaptation of the Michael Chabon novel.

The Pinis are repped by RWSH and Hansen Literary.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! Format undetermined - on the one hand animated would be great, on the other hand it would be really interesting to see actors in these roles - as long as they cast them well... *starts Elijah Wood as Skywise petition*

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

ETA: Another story at getthebigpicture.com, which has a bit more info on Michael Thurber. Interesting choice indeed... I hope Richard Pini will soon post something to the mailing list about this!

Not 100% happy with the likeness, but I'd love to get them anyhow... however, at the price of £24.99 each... *gulp*

I actually made these a while ago but didn't upload for various reasons. The icon I'm using is of two lead characters from one of my most favourite comic series, Elfquest. I have the full print on the wall above my bed's headboard. :)

And this one: Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting has a little story behind it. I downloaded a documentary about Johnny Cash, The Last Great American, which was made not too long ago, after his death. And towards the end they played what I think was the entire video for his song "Hurt" - written by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails (and possibly even recorded by them originally?). And oh God, that video is devastating. It's basically a look back at his life, and to see old clips of him juxtaposed with him being so frail at the time of the shoot, and in combination with the lyrics... His daughter Roseanne said that her sister had seen it before her and just told her, "Be careful." And she watched it with Johnny and June, and she just broke down and sobbed while June held her. Hell I already did! I then found this picture, and it so reminds me of that video... I just had to icon it. *sad smile*

But on to related, yet more cheerful icons - Joaquin in Walk the Line, from the scene where Johnny hears his first single playing somewhere in the neighbourhood in the night, and takes baby Roseanne out to listen to it. *melts into puddle of goo* Feel free to grab yadda yadda. :)
