January 28th in the UK

"mid 2008" in the US

Well I guess it's clear which version I'll go for. And should the US version have any extras worth getting that the UK version doesn't have, I guess I'll just end up with two sets.

Now if those bastards at Lifetime would just renew it... *mutter grumble*

As you can see there is no mention of who will direct or write the script - but just to know that PJ and Fran will be involved in-depth is a relief!

I had pre-ordered my copy of "The Return of the King: The Complete Recordings" as soon as it was available. I got a shipment notification from Amazon.com on November 19th, with a delivery estimate (by expedited international shipping) of December 5th. I still didn't have it by yesterday so I inquired about it. This is the reply I just got:

Thanks for writing to us at Amazon.com.

Please accept my sincere apology for any inconvenience that may have caused you due to this misunderstanding and please allow me to explain.

I'm sorry to hear about this situation. Usually, I'd be able to create a replacement order that would be shipped to you as soon as possible at no additional charge. Unfortunately, I can't do that in this case because the missing item is now unavailable from our supplier.

Instead, I've requested a refund of $69.97 to cover the cost of the item and associated shipping costs. We'll send you an e-mail to confirm the refund once it has been processed.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We appreciate your business and hope that you will give us a chance to serve you better.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I NEED THIS!!! I was counting on having it by Christmas so I could really indulge over the holidays!!!!! *SOB* I guess it's unavailable because of some problems there were with one version of the soundtrack (I only scanned one entry on my flist mentioning this), but I don't care why, I just care that I NEED IT AND I DON'T HAVE IT!!!! And the Amazon listing - ANY Amazon listing - now says they have no idea if and when it will be available again! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

*takes deep breath*

Would anyone out there who did get it be so kind to rip the CDs for me? PRETTY PLEASE?! I will pledge you my firstborn child! Or send chocolate or fondue or whatever you want! *pathetic puppy dog look*

Jackson back in 'Hobbit' via NL, MGM

By Gregg Goldstein and Borys Kit

UPDATED 11:30 a.m. PT Dec. 18

J.R.R. Tolkein's "The Hobbit" is finally back on track and headed to the big screen.

New Line and filmmaker Peter Jackson have resolved their differences over Jackson's profit participation over the $3 billion-grossing "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, paving the way for a two-film adaptation of Tolkien's children's masterpiece.

New Line and MGM, which holds "Hobbit" feature rights, have pacted to co-finance and co-distribute the movies, with New Line handling North American and MGM international distribution.

Because of his packed schelude that includes "The Lovely Bones" and "Tintin," Jackson is not directing or writing the movies, but will executive produce with partner Fran Walsh. New Line will manage production.

Jackson decided not to take on writing and directing roles himself because with his other commitments, he figured that he would not be able to complete the "Hobbit" films until around 2015. One consideration that pushed all the parties to reach an agreement is the huge fan interest surrounding the franchise.

Jackson didn't want to keep the fans waiting that long, and New Line and MGM knew that if they moved ahead on the project without Jackson's involvement, they risked alienating the fans. As executive producer, Jackson will have approval over creative elements of both films.

MGM CEO Harry Sloan talks 'Hobbit'

Categories: Movie Biz, The Hobbit

This morning, New Line and MGM announced that the Hobbit debacle was over and the first of two planned pics would finally be going into pre-production with Peter Jackson as executive producer. The Hobbit is scheduled for a 2010 release, and the sequel is expected the following year -- the latter having the better chance of being directed by the Lord of the Rings mastermind himself. Shortly after the announcement, Hollywood Insider spoke with MGM CEO Harry Sloan about the details.

EW: You must be delighted that this project is finally moving forward.
HARRY SLOAN: Ecstatic. It’s a great day for MGM and New Line, and to have two Hobbit movies with Peter Jackson, really, I couldn’t imagine anything better happening around Christmastime this year.
