I was seriously considering calling in sick this morning - yup, slept badly again last night. Dozed, turned, dozed, turned, dozed... *rolls eyes* Oh yeah, and I kept dreaming snippets of Pitch Black. No, not the "monster in the dark" bits (they weren't that scary), more character interaction stuff. I felt a bit better after I had my tea this morning, though, so decided that I'd go in and I could still go home if I felt too bad. So far it's mostly okay. I guess I'll survive, then. ;)

The reason why I dreamed Pitch Black was that I saw it for the first time last night, finally. I of course have already seen The Chronicles of Riddick several times - yes, because Karl's in it :) - and have been curious to see PB since then. I must say I quite like them both, particularly the sense of humour that runs through. I also like Vin Diesel - not only from what I've seen of him in these two films, but also from some talk show appearance I happened to catch last year. He was promoting that film - sorry, can't remember the title - where he plays a mafia guy who decides to defend himself in court. Vin doesn't seem to take himself too seriously, which I always like in people. :)

*yawn* Right. Work... *sigh*

It's funny: for you it's completely the other way around! You see things in PB that remind you of CoR. :)

I was Riddick/Jack shipper long before I ever saw CoR. I'm sure I've told you about that amazing Riddick/Jack fic series I totally adore. The pairing just works so well - even if it's het. *g* Maybe Riddick will find a way to bring her back to life, using some kind of Necromonger technique?

deVaako? You mean Dame Vaako? Ugh, I really don't like her. No sex for her! ;P

LOL yes, obviously because I've seen them in reverse order. :)

even if it's het. *giggle* Ooh I don't think you have - could you link it please?!

Yes - didn't he call her deVaako in that first scene of them together? LOL no she's not very likeable, but I figured she wouldn't be one for letting her husband out of sight. Then again, she doesn't really have anything to say when it's the new Lord Marshal requiring her husband's services... ;)

It's just funny to me that you've seen them the other way around. I guess it also works. It's just different. :)

The story I mentioned is called Apprentice, and it's written by a woman called Ardath Rekha. I've chatted with her and she doesn't want anything to do with CoR. For her her story is what really happens. She has a very interesting spin on things, I must say, and it's a shame the writers didn't do anything like that for the movie. And like I said, it's even worse that they killed off Jack. You'll understand once you've read it. But I have to tell you, it's long. It has 60 sizable chapters. But it's SO worth the read.

I always thought he said Dame Vaako, but I could be wrong. And no, if I had a husband like him, I wouldn't let him out of sight either. ;) Still, I don't see her as the obedient type, even if it's the Lord Marshal telling her what to do. I think she might bite, or something. ;P

Oh, and don't be put off by the warnings above the story. Not all of that stuff is present in every chapter. It does feature throughout the story, though, but it's never gratuitous.

Oh don't worry, warnings like those hardly ever put me off - at the very least I usually give it a try anyway. :)

It just fits, I guess. It wouldn't work in a story about a guy like Riddick if he were to frolick through the daisies and play with bunnies. ;p

He does torture and kill some people, but they deserve it. Well, as far as anyone deserves that. But in this universe, they do. :)

frolick through the daisies and play with bunnies

omg now THAT would make for a brilliant crack!fic... ROTFL!!!

Yeah - the thing is, Riddick is evil but... yet not really. Okay, I guess if we had seen him before Pitch Black we might think otherwise, but I do think he always had an underlying streak of humanity, it was just buried really deep.

I've never seen him as pure evil. He has a really fascinating character, I think. The way it's worked out in Apprentice is really clever. The Furyan theory works, I guess, but the way Ardath explains why Riddick became what he became is just brilliant. Well, you'll see. ;p

I love it that you have this guy who you at first think is the big brawny (but not brainy) baddie, but oh you quickly notice he's all kinds of clever, and physically quick too! And he has a wicked sense of humour! And his own sense of nobility and morality, twisted as it sometimes is. ♥ I can't wait to find out more about that project and why he is the way he is!!!

Oooh thank you - started reading (first three chapters) and it's intrigueing! Heh, yeah I guess I can understand the author regarding CoR. Now if they had let Jack live, okay, but to kill her... *shakes head*

Oh, I found a fantastic Riddick/Firefly crossover! No pairings but it's really well written and the characterizations are pretty spot on.

Yes you were right, Vaako did say "Dame" - seems I just misheard it! Ahaha yes, I'd definitely figure her the biting/scratching etc. type!

Dammit, I re-watched CoR and now I want to re-watch PB again... :)

I'm glad you like 'Apprentice' so far. It only gets better!

BTW, if the background bothers you, you can also read it here. That's where I first read it, back in the day. I started reading at night and I read straight on till morning. I got about half-way through the entire story in one night. :)

Riddick/Firefly sounds good. I read a Riddick/Darth Maul fic once. That was actually the first graphic slash fic I ever read. It's not on the net anymore, because the author went pro.

You should buy the PB DVD. And I should rewatch mine again. :) I uploaded my Riddick icon again, especially for the occasion. *g*

Ah thanks - so far the background doesn't bother me much.

Heh, that sounds interesting too. I can give you the Riddick/Firefly link when I get home, if you're interested?

Oh yeah, just added PB to my Amazon Wishlist, might get it soon. And omg. There's a 2-disc edition of CoR with a commentary - featuring Karl among others... adlkjfaödjfasdfimsoreplacingmy1-disceditionalskhdföadf!!!

Aaaahahhaa LOVE your icon! :D

I'd love to have the Riddick/Firefly link!

Ohhh, a Karl commentary?! *salivates* There's a Vin Diesel commentary on the PB DVD, which is great. He's such a fun guy.

omfg why did I have to go back to work?! This story is soo good, I just wanted to keep on reading! They're at the clinic now, and that orderly has just marked himself a dead man... *eg* Oh and the doctor who treats Jack is very close to the truth... *gulp* Poor Riddick isn't having an easy time around Jack - and I'm sure it will get worse! ;)

I started reading it again after I gave you the link as well, but I'm a very slow reader. I only got to chapter 5 so far. I bet you weren't surprised Riddick turned out to be the captain of the freight-ship. :) What chapter are you on now? The scenes at the clinic are SOOO good, though it's not so nice for poor Jack and Riddick.

I got until somewhere in the middle of 19 before I had to go back to work... I'm a quick reader! And no, I certainly wasn't surprised, heh. :D

I'm SO tempted to continue reading right here, but I have to resist until I get home... *twitches*
