And a very fitting one too, considering I spent the last days (and a good part of the nights *cough*) watching the Firefly and Serenity commentaries and reading Firefly Slash... (I blame [livejournal.com profile] ladysunrope! ;))

So when I saw this at [livejournal.com profile] serenitysangel's LJ, being a good Browncoat, I of course had to immediately do it too. Anyone surprised at the result? ;) It does happen to be among my (many) favourite lines!

Which Firefly Line Are You? )

I know I'm waaaay behind on replying to comments - I haven't forgotten about you, don't worry!

Hope y'all had a good start into the New Year!

I love "Out of Gas". OK there's not a single episode of Firefly that I don't like, but this one is among my favourites. Not only do we learn how the original crew got together (and some of these flashbacks are so funny), but some scenes are just so touching:

Right. I need to get off to bed.

They were talking about what makes a good James Bond on the radio today, which led to the latest Bond-girls talking about Mr. Whatshisname's kissing technique, which they praised quite elaborately. And of course all I could think was, "Hmmm, Sean Maher as James Bond...?" :) Blame it on all the Firefly fan fic I read over the weekend. For some reason I hadn't really gone look for it before, but now I stumbled into [livejournal.com profile] talkcrazy (Dominant Simon... *whimper*) and the Firefly's Glow Archive, where most of the NC-17 stories seem to involve Simon in some way (Well no wonder, I mean hello, Mr. Sean "The Bod" Maher?! *drools*), though surprisingly few are Simon/Kaylee, instead mostly Simon/Mal or Simon/Jayne, or even Simon/Mal/Jayne (and yes, some Simon/River thrown in for good measure).

Minor earthquake yesterday. Err, make that earthquakeS - we had three, same epicenter at a nearby mountain pass. One in the early afternoon, two withing minutes of each other shortly after 10pm, though I only noticed one of those. Nothing big at all, just a slight trembling/shaking and grinding noise. The strongest one, in the evening, apparently had a magnitude of 3.0. Heh, I didn't even check if any of my action figures fell over - some have a tendency to do that.

I'm feeling oh so productive. NOT. Woke up after 6am this morning, having to get up at 6:55. Quite an improvement over previous nights, when I'd wake up something like after 3am and then only sleep fitfully until the alarm went off. Will have to remember to take my homeopathic remedy again tonight. I seem to get these phases more and more often, bleh.

It's sunny again, after a very dreary Monday and Tuesday morning. Thank goodness - sleep deprivation and dreary weather are not a good combination for me!

Right, back to work... *sighs as she notices the time*

There are things I had planned to do today, but I am sleepy and braindead so here's another meme!

omfg 7 weeks to Serenity 3 and the start of my holidays!!! I really need to get organized...

I stumbled across a link to this - a podcast by Wil Wheaton (yes, of ST:TNG and Stand By Me fame) in which he talks about (among other things) how he met Sean Maher at an audition last December and totally geeked/nerded out because he loved Firefly. And Sean was a total darling. *♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ them both*

The download link is at the end of this blog entry. It's 28 MB (mp3, 27 minutes long), so can take quite a while to download. The part about meeting Sean starts around 19:30 min in and goes on until the end. The rest is quite entertaining too though!

Wheee! EII and HoV DVDs arrived today - so I have viewing material for the weekend! *bounce* Of course I've already watched the EII deleted scenes - I just can't stop giggling madly and at the same time being turned on in a very weird way at the car washing scene... despite the porn 'stache. But other than this, that bitch sure has good taste in men! ;)

[livejournal.com profile] serenitysangel and other Firefly/Serenity/Nathan Fillion fans - you can find some clips of Nathan's new film Slither, including a brief interview with him, over here! ETA: Roger Ebert's review, which contains some spoilers for the beginning/rough outline mostly. A non-spoilerish excerpt:

What's interesting is that this story sounds so worn-out and yet it works. There is some humor in the plot, effective action and scenes that entertain us because of how stupidly the characters behave. [...]

There are better movies opening this weekend. There are better movies opening every weekend. But "Slither" has a competence to it, an ability to manipulate obligatory horror scenes in a way that works. Given my theory of the star rating system, which suggests movies should be rated by their genres, "Slither" gets two if "28 Days Later" gets three. On the other hand, "Basic Instinct 2" also opens today, and in the genre of slick and classy big-star thrillers, if "Fatal Attraction" gets 2-1/2 stars, then "Basic Instinct 2" gets 1-1/2. On the third hand, a lot of people would probably enjoy "Basic Instinct 2" more than "Slither." One of these days, I'm going to have to take that star rating system and feed it to a meat-eating slime-slug.

I haven't watched all clips yet (am going through them currently) but I certainly agree on the humour! *giggle*

[livejournal.com profile] ismenin - Your spider chart arrived! Now that makes much more sense than the examples I'd found online! Thanks a lot! :D

I still didn't sleep as well as I'd have liked to, but at least significantly longer than the previous nights.

I think that's it for now - have a good Friday everyone!

From the Hollywood Reporter column:

Universal's "Serenity" was the highest grossing picture of the new arrivals, taking in an estimated $10.1 million to place second. The sci-fi actioner, helmed by Joss Whedon and based on his television series "Firefly," carried a PG-13 rating and has a strong niche fan base. The opening was somewhat on the low side of expectations heading into the weekend, but the vast majority of reviews for "Serenity" were favorable and exit scores were positive.

[...]

Speaking about the frame's top new performer, "Serenity," executives at Universal felt the results were in line with what was anticipated and hold out hope for growth in the weeks ahead. "The film was right in the middle of expectations," said Nikki Rocco, president of Universal Pictures distribution. "The audience is a niche fan base, and they turned out. And based on the strong exits, the hope now is that word of mouth will help the picture find an audience outside of the core fan base," Rocco said.

"Serenity" attracted more males with 61% of the audience comprising that gender, and skewed slightly older with 52% in the 30 and over category. Scores were slightly above the norm in regards to "definite recommends." Compared with some films in the action sci-fi special effects genre, the estimated cost for "Serenity" was low at $39 million.

And also, A History of Violence:

Of the frame's new wide releases, New Line Cinema's "A History of Violence" could be the most promising in the long run. The drama placed fourth with an estimated $8.2 million from just 1,340 theaters, up from the previous weekend's limited run of 14. Viggo Mortensen stars in the R-rated picture from director David Cronenberg, which had the highest per-theater average among the top-ranked films and has taken in around $9 million so far.

ETA: And this from Variety.com about EII:

Warner Independent's Elijah WoodElijah Wood-starring literary adaptation "Everything Is Illuminated" brought in $190,000 off 60 screens in its third weekend, an average of $3,167 per screen and pushing cume to $462,000.

Audiences fail to find Serenity

Come on people, please please please - if you are remotely interested in Joss Whedon and/or Science Fiction and/or action with a heart and/or conspiracy stories and/or films with a dry humour and/or strong ensemble casts, and if you want to help show Hollywood the strength of even smaller fandoms -

Go see Serenity

Go see it, I promise you won't regret it. You don't need to have watched the series it was based on, you will love it, I promise. So I beg you if you haven't already, go and see Serenity, get your friends and family to go and see it, get their friends and their friends family to go and see it. Fans of the show (we call ourselves Browncoats) will be eternally grateful!

When you see this on your friends list, quote Firefly.

***

Simon: This may come as a shock, but I'm actually not very good at... talking to girls.
Zoe: Why is there someone you are good at talking to?

***

Kaylee: Oh, look at the pretties!
Wash: What am I looking at, the girls or the clothes?
Jayne: There's clothes?

***

Inara: You have a strange sense of nobility Captain. You'll lay a man out for calling me a whore, and yet you keep calling me one to my face.
Mal: I might not show respect to your job, but he didn't respect you. That's the difference. Inara, he doesn't even see you.

***

Mal: Well, look at this! Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?
Zoe: Big damn heroes, sir.

***

Jayne: Not as deceiving as a low down dirty... deceiver.
Mal: Well said. Wasn't that well said, Zoe?
Zoe: Had a kind poetry to it, sir.

***

River: No power in the 'verse can stop me.

***

Book: Yes, I'd forgotten you're moonlighting as a criminal mastermind now. Got your next heist planned?
Simon: No. But I'm thinking about growing a big black mustache. I'm a traditionalist.

***

Mal: Your husband has demanded that we sleep together.
Zoe: Really?
Wash: What? Mal, come on.
Mal: He seems to think it would get all this burning sexual tension out in the open -- you know, make a fair fight for your womanly affections.
Wash: No. That was the torture talking. Remember? The torture?

***

Zoe: No one's gonna force you to go, Jayne. As has been stated -- this job's strictly speculative.
Jayne: Good. 'cause I don't know these folks. Don't much care to.
Mal: They're whores.
Jayne: I'm in.

***

Early: You folks are all insane.
Simon: Well, my sister's a ship. We had a complicated childhood.

***

Kaylee: Yes, sir, Captain Tightpants.

You scored as Shepherd Derrial Book. The Preacher. Out here, folks need a minister, if only to remind them that God hasn't forgotten them. It isn't about making them worship, it is teaching them to do right by themselves and other people. Why is that so hard for some to understand?

Which Serenity character are you?
created with QuizFarm.com

Heh, interesting result. :) Kaylee's description is: The Mechanic. You are a natural mechanic, and you are far too sweet and cheerful to live out here. How you can see the good in everyone around you boggles the mind occationally. Still you don't seem to be any crazier than that, and it is a nice kinda crazy.

Yeah, sometimes I still try to see the good in others when everyone else has long given up. And this from Book: It isn't about making them worship, it is teaching them to do right by themselves and other people. Why is that so hard for some to understand? Oh yeah.

Yes! :D
