Grrrr

I just got back from yoga and found, after turning my laptop back on, that somehow Firefox managed to completely lose all info about my last session - no possibility to open recently closed tabs or restore the previous session, and today's History only includes tabs that I actually looked at - and no even all of those; I distinctly remember looking at some but they were not around! The most annoying thing is, I had some quite long Sherlock fics on the backburner, some for a few weeks already, but of course don't remember many of them or who wrote them. Guess they'll just go unread, then. And of course there's other stuff I'd wanted to read/reply to, but yeah... *sigh*

Good thing yoga left me too relaxed to get seriously really pissed off. That and the news of Sean's coming out. I think that will have me grinning for days, if not longer. :)

Your Psyche is Blue

You are deeply emotional and very connected to everything (and everyone) around you.

By simply understanding other people, you are able to help them heal and let go.

While you are a very deep and thoughtful person, you do have a very silly, superficial side.

When you are too blue: the weight of the world's problems hangs over you

When you don't have enough blue: you lack perspective and understanding

File recovery is finished, and I reconfigured Outlook yesterday, so now I have all my old emails and contacts and rules etc. back. \o/

Must get my train ticket for Bonn - and if my confirmation letter from RingCon doesn't arrive by Wednesday, print the email I received after booking my ticket. Oh yes, and of course first of all, install my new printer. Did I mention that the old one had given out back in early August? I surely hope that my streak of computer equipment giving out is over now... *gives her computer ventilation a significant look*

Yay!

I have my computer and internet back at home! Now the recovery of my backup is running, which might take a day or two or three, with as many files as I have... but I'll soon be back for good! \o/

Still without internet at home since I'm having problems with getting it to work, though at least the new harddisc is mounted and Windows installed. Won't have time to fiddle with it tonight either since we have a team dinner, sort of a goodbye affair for one of our project managers who's transferring internally to another team at our other office near Zurich. She'll still be here until about mid November, but will be absent a lot, hence we're doing this now in case there's no other occasion later.

Saturday I went out for pizza with my best friend and a friend of hers who's joined us before, occasionally. After a brief stop at my flat due to being finished too early to go on, we went to a club that we knew from waaaay back, but which has been closed for some years. They're not letting in anyone under 20 - hooray, no kindergarten! The music was pretty good so we got to dance some, and we had lots of fun and laughter, part of which thanks to one of the IT guys from my workplace who we already knew from our going-out-regularly times, and who's very cheeky. It's been ages since we did anything like this, so it was really great.

Weather is blah - we got lots of rain over the weekend and higher up some snow, down to a little lower than the treeline, though thank goodness not down in the valley as was predicted. Still, it's pretty cool. Autumn's definitely arrived!

Anyway - work! Hopefully I'll soon be back online at home!

PS: This is SO well deserved!!! If you haven't seen the film yet, do try and get it on DVD - it's out in several countries. It's not an easy entertainment kind of film, but it's very well done with great performances all around. Congratulations to Karl and the whole team!

The plan was to install my new harddisc on the desktop computer at home, over the weekend. But no thanks to a rather nasty little draft that started as soon as one of the windows in our office was open last Thursday and Friday, I ended up with a cold which left me pretty much useless for the whole weekend. So I spent most of the weekend in front of the TV, watching all of Firefly and then Serenity, the latter with commentaries. And therefore I'm still computer- and internetless at home. Feeling better today (though tired, due to not sleeping properly these last nights) but now of course I'm coughing, and a very dry cough too, for which I'm taking tissue (mineral) salts. I'll see how soon I'll feel up to working on the computer - possibly tonight, possibly not.

Last but very much not least, if you have good vibes and/or healing thoughts to spare, please send them [livejournal.com profile] ismenin's way, who's in hospital due to breathing problems.

New harddisc ordered, should arrive early next week. \o/

Took a cursory glance at my flist and thought I'd update you on the status of my computer's harddisc while I'm on here:

I ran the simple HD diagnostic that's on my computer and it seems there are some "bad tracks on sectors" - i.e. it's the HD, not the Windows installation, which would have been the other (and more easily fixed) possibility. Swell... At least I have everything backed up, maybe with the exception of the very latest e-mails from Wednesday - hopefully there was nothing important in there... Will ask our support guy what he thinks, if I should run some further diagnostics or do something else, or just get a new HD. Thank goodness those things don't cost the world, annoying as this is.

So unless we find a quick way to repair this thing, you can expect me to be very silent over the weekend... I may check my mail and flist once or twice at my sister's, but that would be it I guess.

MTV: John Noble won’t Reprise Role in ‘Hobbit’ Films
August 27th, 2008 by Calisuri | Source: MTV Movie Blog | Discuss

It has been well documented that Guillermo del Toro will approach the original The Lord of the Rings cast to reprise their roles in Middle-earth should the script call for it. News comes today from the MTV Movie Blog that one such actor, John Noble, won’t be available:

“If they said, ‘Would you come and play Denethor again,’” Noble said, “I would have to say, ‘No, I’m doing [new J.J. Abrams television series] ‘Fringe’! And I certainly couldn’t play a younger Denethor or even Ecthelion now that I’m an older John. Not even with makeup.”
For the full story, jump on over to the MTV Movie Blog. [Read More]

And a REALLY cute Craig Parker story: My daughter, the famous actor, and the plastic animals: A story of contingency I can SO see him do that! :D *still needs to make a Craig icon*

Just to warn you: I am having problems with Windows suddenly and without discernible cause hanging during startup, so until I found a solution I may be absent/quiet, since my laptop which I'd usually use in such a a case is currently sans harddisc. Of course. *rolls eyes* I hope I can find out what's causing this asap, but you never know.

Still reading "Babylon Babies". Behind a cut to spare those not interested, but no spoilers )

Not pleased with laptop which suddenly won't connect to the internet anymore, or if it does, only for brief moments. Seems travelling doesn't suit it! *rolls eyes* At least I'm having no such problems on the desktop, so it's definitely the laptop and not the wireless router that is having a problem.

Anyway - just had to mention that The Return of the King - The Complete Recordings is now available for pre-order (see Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk - haven't seen it on Amazon.de yet) to be released November 6th! \o/

Also, LotR did very well at the Movies.com Fan Poll! \o/

Another article regarding the New Line fine in the FotR royalties dispute from Yahoo News:

For a complex entertainment case, where lawyer gamesmanship over access to documents and witnesses is fairly common, Hillman's language and the amount of the penalty are striking. "It's almost unheard of," says litigator Neville Johnson, who frequently tangles with studios. "You rarely see sanctions, and you certainly don't see sanctions that high."

More at the link above. And Sean Astin chimes in on the Hobbit situation, at the MTV Movie Blog.

Yup, still - or again? - having connection problems. Will have to run some more in-depth diagnostics on my wireless configuration, but not tonight anymore!

Anyway - it's been almost a month since I posted the last LJ Stats again, and there's been a bit of movement in the Top 10 - though [livejournal.com profile] serenitysangel is still the undefied Number One! :)

Stingray is coming to DVD!!! *bounce* It's one of my all-time favourite series - and another one which was cancelled after not enough episodes - one season, if even a full one? *is too lazy to go check* But I LOVED it and yes the main character too - cut to spare you my rambling about the series' premise ) And yes of course I had a crush on the lead - I mean hello, Nick Mancuso is rather gorgeous:

I've been waiting for a DVD release, and now it's finally coming! Here's hoping there won't be a change in plans... *crosses fingers, holds thumps*

In less good news, since that odd incident with IE last night on my laptop while typing my comment to [livejournal.com profile] ladysunrope's latest chapter of Uruk-Hai (don't ask - just be glad you weren't around me!), Outlook can't download or send mail anymore. And that although my internet connection works perfectly - and not even after having turned off the computer last night and switching it on again today does it work. Argh! I hate having to go through webmail for everything when I'm home! And I don't want to go to the desktop because I'm lazy and the sofa is more comfortable than my little chair over there. I just hope this will clear itself up soon. It's always something, eh?
