"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

I just got back from yoga and found, after turning my laptop back on, that somehow Firefox managed to completely lose all info about my last session - no possibility to open recently closed tabs or restore the previous session, and today's History only includes tabs that I actually looked at - and no even all of those; I distinctly remember looking at some but they were not around! The most annoying thing is, I had some quite long Sherlock fics on the backburner, some for a few weeks already, but of course don't remember many of them or who wrote them. Guess they'll just go unread, then. And of course there's other stuff I'd wanted to read/reply to, but yeah... *sigh*

Good thing yoga left me too relaxed to get seriously really pissed off. That and the news of Sean's coming out. I think that will have me grinning for days, if not longer. :)

Seems someone doesn't like me talking to

ladysunrope because twice my connection cut out after we'd hardly exchanged a few sentences! Couldn't get online yesterday at all, but today finally managed to configure my new wireless router (thank goodness for the possibility of manual configuration, because the setup assistant program just wouldn't work at all), so here's hoping my connection troubles are over for good! *crosses everything crossable*

ms_alis found it here. There are some screen caps to help you judge whether you want to watch it or not (and indicating the quality of the clip). I did watch it, and while there are only two parts towards the end which I'd really call gory, the violence is very visceral and it's certainly not a scene I'd watch for enjoyment or kicks. But I think within the reality of the film, it's not gratuitous.

This is f***ing ridiculous! I wonder, does the law also forbid people the use of digital instead of VHS recorders? Because anything you save to DVD or harddisc is digital, of course. I'm sure electronics companies will be thrilled about that...

Only just now was able to get online for the first time today - for some reason I just couldn't connect to any of the wireless networks that are in the area, be it with my computer or my laptop. Neither could my sister who lives next door. Very weird! I hope whatever the problem was is now gone for good.

And I found some great news in my e-mail: Stingray is finally coming to DVD!!!! Nick Mancuso all mysterious, wearing a leather jacket driving around in that gorgeous black Corvette Stingray! *whimper* It will be released in about half a year only, but at least it's finally coming! Guess that means Amazon.ca will be getting business from me! ;)

While I was unable to get online, I used the time to catch up on some downloads. First was First Snow with Guy Pearce and William Fichtner *winks at

serenitysangel. Interesting film with a slow buildup - sometimes borderline too slow, but the performances are good, and of course Guy looks gorgeous. And talk about an ending left open to the interpretation of the viewer! Now I have a craving to watch The Proposition again...

Then it was the Captain Jack episodes of Doctor Who's first season. Lots of fun! :D I really can't wait for the second season of Torchwood!

Right, off I go to catch up on my flist now...

How swell - another wireless router fried. A new one costs CHF 248 - I could use that money for other things, grrrrr! I have to find the bill/warranty for my current wireless router, if I'm lucky it's still within the warranty period but I'm guessing more likely it's just about over. So I guess there's nothing for it, as I will NOT be offline for longer than absolutely necessary! Particularly since last night I was suddenly disconnected from the network I was piggybacking on, and I wasn't able to connect to that one or the other unlocked one within my range anymore since then, on either the laptop or the desktop. *shakes fist*

I fended off the worst of a sore throat and cold over the weekend, but it still turned into a cough - and a very exhausting dry one too. No wonder with the dry winter air here. I don't know if it really is extremely dry right now or if it's just me being extremely sensitive, but I feel it in the night despite having a humidifier on in my bedroom, and the resulting cough after getting up is not fun. Might pass by the homeopathic chemist on the way home, as I think the tissue salt I need is one that's not in the basic set I have. Oh yes, and must buy water today - I'm on the last bottle!

I was about to post a couple of hours earlier when out of the blue, my wireless router gave out, the bastard! Seems it's fried, and of course the warranty period is over already. *rolls eyes* Now usually I'd have to pay CHF 250 for a new one, but my sister reminded me that a couple of weeks ago there was an e-mail regarding a special offer for customers of 1+ years - get the wireless router for only CHF 78. So I just ordered one and should receive it in a couple of days. Thank goodness there are some other wireless networks in the area which aren't secured, so I'm now piggybacking on someone else's connection.

And it seems LJ's database problems are mostly resolved? *crosses fingers*

Totally unrelated: I'm thinking about creating my own LJ mood theme (since I don't have enough to do otherwise... *cough*), but - what would the theme be?! LOTR? Lost (I have that right now, so probably not)? Elijah? Dom? Both? Someone else/everyone from my List of Lust? All my obsessions including various TV series, books, movies, actors, musicians etc. etc.? Will have to think about it; don'e expect anything anytime soon. :)
