These are not news by any stretch of the imagination - just want to put these links here for completion's sake.

No Wellington premiere for Desolation of Smaug - a slight updated on that are in the following article:

Hobbit news in brief: new production video soon, trailer reactions and premiere update

The first The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug trailer is now up at the Official website, of course, and you can find an analysis by TORn staff here and, more in detail, here.

Not that this is news - Benedict has mentioned it before - but here you go: Smaug to be performance capture not just voice work says Benedict Cumberbatch (Why won't it play the video for me?! I only get the Hugo preview and then the player gets stuck on buffering... *sob*)

Viggo Mortensen will not be in ‘The Hobbit’ - Oy, PJ, give Viggo a call, will you? :(

And a little speculation about the Hobbit teaser that Andy Serkis mentioned: Remember the first LOTR teaser? We do! Now its time for a ‘Hobbit’ version - this is actually the first time I've seen the first LotR teaser!

$1 Million for a Cameo? Bloom Rumors (Monaghan Too)

Orlando Bloomtimesofindia.indiatimes.com and other sources (possibly all from the same source) are reporting that Orlando Bloom has asked, and will receive $1 Million dollars for his 2 minute cameo in the Hobbit Films. While we cannot confirm or deny this bombastic rumor, it begs an interesting question, how much is a possible 2 minute cameo worth?

The same article also makes a throwaway note about Dominic Monaghan joining the cast, lazy reporting or actual scoop? You Decide. Take a look at the article in question here.

David Tennant joins ‘The Hobbit’?

January 11th, 2011 by xoanon 0 Comments and 8 Reactions

With the hot and heavy casting news recently people are furiously trying to fill in un cast characters with likely candidates. Former Doctor Who star David Tennant is once again being mentioned as possibly playing Thranduil the Elvenking in the forthcoming Hobbit movie. [...]

That would make two ex-Doctors in The Hobbit, with David and Sylvester McCoy! :D

A preview of the first five pages of the "Serenity: Better Days" comic issue #1 is available at wizarduniverse.com. Featuring Simon! As does (is?) the cover of issue #3! \o/ Interestingly, they haven't revealed cover #2 yet - I'm curious to find out why. Can't wait for my copy of issue #1 to arrive sometime around/after mid March - and then of course it'll be a wait of 1 month between it and #2, and #2 and number 3... :)

Booked my ticket for the FotR-with-live-soundtrack performance on 23rd February! Both this performance and the one on the following day are almost totally sold out, and they added another one on 29th March but I don't know if Howard Shore will be present there too - probably not, I'd guess. Anyway, there were only tickets for the two best category seats left for the above date (and only few more for the Sunday), and since the difference was only CHF30 I went for one of the few best seats left, at CHF150. After all I'll only have to pay CHF85 for the hotel - a different one than when I went to the LotR Symphony at the same venue, but in the same area which means only some minutes' walk to and from the concert (and the train station).

Eeeeeeh, I'm really looking forward to this!!! Will have to take something that Howard Shore can sign, just in case. :)

Kingdom of Heaven is on TV, and thankfully in original language. Has anyone seen the Director's Cut DVD? I quite liked the cinema version and am curious to hear how the two cuts differ. The Amazon reviewer certainly seems to think the DC is a vast improvement over the cinematic version.

And speaking of concerts, Kill Hannah will be in Basel on 12th April supporting Aiden on their European tour - this will be the only Swiss concert... to go or not to go?

Elijah Wood Wants To Go Back Again To ‘The Hobbit’

41 Comments | Published by Shawn Adler on Friday, January 11, 2008 at 3:10 pm.

Attention Cate Blanchett, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, and Sean Astin: You’ve gone “There.” Now get ready to go “Back Again” - at least according to Elijah Wood’s conversations with “Hobbit” maestro Peter Jackson.

“I haven’t spoken to him directly about it [but] I’ve e-mailed him, and as far as I know the two films that they’re doing, one will be ‘The Hobbit’ and another will take place between the 60 years that happened between ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings,’” the once and future Frodo enthused to MTV News, possibly confirming rumors that the second planned film would not be a Part II, but instead a narrative bridge.

Which means plenty of opportunities for all the stars of “LOTR” to reprise their famous characters in some capacity. None more so, perhaps, than Wood himself, who would arguably be a central figure along with Gandalf, Aragorn, Galadriel, and Gollum in any connecting story.

For his part, Wood, who next stars as a conscripted citizen in “Day Zero,” is positively thrilled at the possibility.

“If I’m asked to go back and revisit that character and it makes sense, I would love to. I would absolutely love to,” he said.

Also, Kristin Thompson (author of "The Frodo Franchise") has put up two blog entries regarding the difficulties that fans who might want to work on/be extras in The Hobbit or simply witness the filming would face.

Orlando Bloom Iffy On ‘Hobbit’ Role Unless Peter Jackson Returns

19 Comments | Published by Shawn Adler on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 11:21 am.

Orlando Bloom seems to be shying away from playing the great elf Legolas in “The Hobbit,” that is unless his original “Lord of the Rings” helmer is behind the camera. “Who’s directing it, Peter Jackson?” he mockingly answered when asked about the possibility.

Yes, we know that Legolas isn’t technically in “The Hobbit,” and to his eternal credit, Bloom knows this as well. But dedicated “Rings” fans know that Legolas is an elf from the realm of Mirkwood, a kingdom Bilbo Baggins and his dwarf companions get captured in towards the end of “The Hobbit,” imprisoned there by the Elvenking Thranduil.

Given, then, that Bilbo spends much time during “The Hobbit” at Mirkwood, and given, too, that Thranduil is Legolas’s father – it seems inconceivable that filmmakers wouldn’t choose to include the popular character in some capacity. “Maybe they’ll create a subplot for Legolas,” Bloom said, though later adding that “I think we covered [his story] with ‘Lord of the Rings.’”

Would Legolas in “The Hobbit” be a good idea, with or without Peter Jackson? Sound off below.

WHOA!

Bloom to make London stage debut
'Pirates' star to headline 'Contractor'

By DAVID BENEDICT

LONDON — Orlando Bloom will make his West End debut in veteran Brit playwright David Storey's 1969 drama "The Contractor." The play, a Chekhovian-style ensemble drama about three brothers returning home for their parents' 40th wedding anniversary, will be directed by Anna Mackmin and produced by Sonia Friedman.
Dates and theater are still subject to confirmation but the most likely venue is the 380-seat Trafalgar Studios for a July opening. No further casting has yet been confirmed.

Bloom has been eyeing legit projects for some time. He is keen to be part of an stage ensemble having worked exclusively on screen since being cast in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy almost immediately on leaving London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1999.
