Grrr

Of course I have to be dead tired when I want to sit down and write some overdue e-mails etc. I'm afraid they'll have to wait until tomorrow night.

Will drag myself to bed now. Maybe I'm very lucky and will dream about what exactly Denna meant when she told Darken Rahl in ep 1.16 of Legend of the Seeker, "Release me, and I'll show you such pleasure that all will be forgiven."

Ah, don't I wish!

Sweet dreams to y'all! ;)
ourdramaqueen: (legend of the seeker darken rahl)
My former coworker (he was in IT here until the end of last year) who joined us at the LotR showing/concert Saturday has read the "Sword of Truth" books that Legend of the Seeker is based on, and is watching the series, so we've been sending a few mails back and forth this morning on that subject. From his reply to my question if the Mord Sith appear in the books (rough translation, sorry):

The Mord Sith have a rather important role in the second part of the first book. small cut due to plot spoiler ) There's lots of torture and sex. ;-)

ROTFL!!! I didn't say anything about particularly enjoying those scenes in my e-mails! So what gave me away - was it the fact that Darken Rahl is my favourite character? Or was it something [livejournal.com profile] shirasade and I said on Saturday? *snigger*

Went to bed at about 21:00 last night because I was so tired, and as I got into bed I was thinking, "I'll bet that means I'll be up at 3AM". I did fall asleep pretty quickly, but as usual lately, had some weird, longass, involved dreams, and at some point after having semi-awoken and turned onto the other side several times, I really woke up. The time on my alarm clock when I finally gave up and stopped turning from side to side? 3:20AM. Haha. I got up, made myself some tea and quickly got online while drinking it, and went to bed again shortly after 4AM. Maybe I shouldn't have read that email from my former coworker who now lives in NZ (I contacted him to see if we can meet up with/visit him while travelling around after the Red Carpet tour) because of course then my mind was locked on that schedule and how we could best make this work. In any case, I couldn't sleep anymore, just dozed, and finally just got up at 6:15 - because I felt that if I stayed in bed, I'd risk falling asleep just before my alarm went off.

*sigh* This will be such a fun day... *makes mental note to pack toothpicks to prop up her eyelids*
ourdramaqueen: (everything is illuminated sleeping)
when I would wake up most mornings* - certainly on weekends - feeling refreshed and fairly energetic...

*meaning "the time when I wake get up", which on weekends would by most others be called "noon"
ourdramaqueen: (ag dr. matt pout)
Why isn't it even noon yet, when I want it to be time to go home?! *pouts* Things are still very quiet at work, and I've spent most of my time since returning from my holiday break wanting to beat our effing webpublisher software to a pulp. Grrr. I'd rather be reading or watching DVDs or sleeping...

Over the holidays I got into a really weird sleeping-waking rhythm: I was up until the wee hours (usually sometime between 2AM and 5AM), and sleeping until sometime around/after noon. The night to Sunday I basically couldn't sleep at all; Monday morning I woke up with a headache and a queasy stomach so I went back to bed and only went to work when finding that I felt better as I woke up around noon; and yesterday I woke up an hour before the alarm. In short, my inner clock is still all out of whack. Why is it so easy to slip out of your everyday rhythm, but so difficult to get back into it?!

Mustn't forget: company new year's dinner (instead of Christmas dinner which would be difficult to do for scheduling reasons) tomorrow night. I hope I'll get back early enough to catch part 2 of the New Zealand documentary on German TV, of which I saw part 1 last night. Nothing spectacular but some interesting tidbits, and hey it's NZ - always worth watching just for the landscape imagery! :)

Weather: Sunny (as of today at least; the past days were cloudy) and cold. Which transfers to the office - I hate it when I have to sit at the computer with cold hands! *shivers*

Err... I'm sure there was something else, but I can't remember it right now. Oh well, I may add it later.
ourdramaqueen: (ddk mirror)
I don't remember ever having been this socially active! This month I've had a spontaneous dinner at my former office mate's (together with my sister); the goodbye dinner for one of the project managers in our team at our boss's place; pumpkin soup dinner at the other project manager's place; and yesterday an even more spontaneous dinner - one of our illustrators who had been away for a couple of weeks invited us when she came to the office yesterday morning. Her birthday is on 29th December, but she'll soon go on holiday for two months (Canada/USA), so this was kind of an early 30th birthday party. It was fun, despite the 20 minute walk up the hill in freezing cold to reach the place. At least I had company, so time went by more quickly, and I was able to hitch a ride home.

Otherwise... )

Of course this all has taken up a lot of time, therefore I've only been skimming/scanning my flist and also been rather neglectful about replying to comments. So I'm not ignoring you guys. :)

But now I have to get back to work. Laters!
ourdramaqueen: (living til the end wtf)
Is it really the last week of November already?! o_O

Certainly looks December-ish outside... but still!

Oh joy

Cue the William Tell Overture.

Justin Chadwick has signed on to helm "Ironbow: The Legend of William Tell" for Spyglass.

The William Tell legend centers on a crossbow marksman who, when he would not bow to Austrian rule, was forced to shoot an apple off his son's head in exchange for freedom. Read more... )

Wilhelm Tell by an American screenwriter - I'm not holding out for historical accuracy. Not that I don't think Tell's story, if he really existed, wasn't built up to much more than it was, but with regards to the period and the landscape etc. And the title - omg please! *eyeroll* Well, whatever - I never heard/saw more than casual mentions of the 2007 version so no doubt this will also pretty much go under my radar in the end. If I were more patriotic this might actually concern me. ;)

There's actually some funny ones in here:

Halloween meme )

There's stuff I want to post about but I suck at introspective writing, so there goes that. Unless I'm suddenly inspired on the weekend. Mental note: make to-do list.
ourdramaqueen: (medium joe looking down)
Can I leave work now please? *whines* I've not slept too quietly since sometime last week, not even on the weekend, so energy and consequently motivation is rather low right now. Doesn't really help that things are so quiet at the office, what with most of our team being on a business trip/on holiday (boss), or not working here on Mondays (part-timers).

Just need to keep telling myself that it's only today and tomorrow, then I'm off for a week...
ourdramaqueen: (everything is illuminated sleeping)
My sister just sent me this in a "good morning" mail, and it certainly suits how I feel most mornings...

yawn

Today particularly, after waking up around 5AM and only dozing until I had to get up at 6:45. I should have taken some toothpicks from home to prop up my eyelids. Ah, but at least my back is a little better again.
ourdramaqueen: (Default)
Still without internet at home since I'm having problems with getting it to work, though at least the new harddisc is mounted and Windows installed. Won't have time to fiddle with it tonight either since we have a team dinner, sort of a goodbye affair for one of our project managers who's transferring internally to another team at our other office near Zurich. She'll still be here until about mid November, but will be absent a lot, hence we're doing this now in case there's no other occasion later.

Saturday I went out for pizza with my best friend and a friend of hers who's joined us before, occasionally. After a brief stop at my flat due to being finished too early to go on, we went to a club that we knew from waaaay back, but which has been closed for some years. They're not letting in anyone under 20 - hooray, no kindergarten! The music was pretty good so we got to dance some, and we had lots of fun and laughter, part of which thanks to one of the IT guys from my workplace who we already knew from our going-out-regularly times, and who's very cheeky. It's been ages since we did anything like this, so it was really great.

Weather is blah - we got lots of rain over the weekend and higher up some snow, down to a little lower than the treeline, though thank goodness not down in the valley as was predicted. Still, it's pretty cool. Autumn's definitely arrived!

Anyway - work! Hopefully I'll soon be back online at home!

PS: This is SO well deserved!!! If you haven't seen the film yet, do try and get it on DVD - it's out in several countries. It's not an easy entertainment kind of film, but it's very well done with great performances all around. Congratulations to Karl and the whole team!
ourdramaqueen: (lotr frodo rotk bronwe athan harthad)
The plan was to install my new harddisc on the desktop computer at home, over the weekend. But no thanks to a rather nasty little draft that started as soon as one of the windows in our office was open last Thursday and Friday, I ended up with a cold which left me pretty much useless for the whole weekend. So I spent most of the weekend in front of the TV, watching all of Firefly and then Serenity, the latter with commentaries. And therefore I'm still computer- and internetless at home. Feeling better today (though tired, due to not sleeping properly these last nights) but now of course I'm coughing, and a very dry cough too, for which I'm taking tissue (mineral) salts. I'll see how soon I'll feel up to working on the computer - possibly tonight, possibly not.

Last but very much not least, if you have good vibes and/or healing thoughts to spare, please send them [livejournal.com profile] ismenin's way, who's in hospital due to breathing problems.
ourdramaqueen: (Default)
So how does ODQ spend her weekend when totally computerless?

Sunday )

I guess that's about it - I know there were one or two other things I thought I'd have to mention, but obviously have slipped my mind. Can't be that important then! ;)

I still know my way around 80's music! Not perfect memory, but still pretty damn good. :D

The Ultimate 80's Pop Music Test )

Yes, I know The Doors aren't 80s, but *gasp* I don't have any 80s music related icons, so this one probably comes closest.

Apologies for hardly replying to comments or commenting on posts, just not been feeling very talkative - except for doing memes etc., obviously, but that doesn't involve much actual writing. I will catch up eventually!

My usual personality type result (INFP) with a slightly different interpretation... :)

The Brutally Honest Personality Test )

Argh, I hate feeling as not-feeling-like-anything as I do now! Typical first-day-of-my-period day... I could watch the last episode of Return to Treasure Island. I could continue reading "Babylon Babies" or one of the non-fiction books I'm currently working my way through. I could read some of the fan fics I'm behind with. I could watch some of the other stuff I've had piling up for a while (like the Torchwood finale). I could go take a bath. I could decide to take one of the aforementioned books and snuggle up in bed with it and a hot water bottle. But of course I don't feel like any of that, and while I'm not particularly energetic, I'm not really sleepy either! Plus even though I didn't eat that much dinner, it's still lying heavy in my stomach. *rolls eyes* Tomorrow better be back to normal again!

Thanks to everyone who replied to this entry! Since I needed the notebook fairly quickly, I decided to forego the custom-made ones with copper cover for now. I got one from Paperblanks instead, through an Amazon seller (of course I couldn't find a Swiss online seller, or at least not one that had the biggest ones available) - the second one on the left of this page, the Foiled Grande (hover to see it in big). It's gorgeous and lovely to write in, particularly with my gel pens. :)

Can anyone point me to a website with special, beautiful notebooks/journals? I need one that is around A4/letter size (bigger is better) with blank pages, but boy is that difficult! I've seen some gorgeous ones on eBay but of course they're either smaller than I need, or if the size is right then the pages are lined! Obviously they'd also need to ship to Switzerland.

Thanks!

which I'd mentioned here.

Dramatis personae:

  • M, female, around mid/late forties, sportive type, lively and funny, originally from Holland, our receptionist and organiser of the whole trip.
  • P, male, 40, a little on the chubby side, mischievous, responsible for our computer network. Him I've known for some years, though not very well, from hanging out&chatting at the same bar and club sometimes back when we still used to go out (and occasionally chatting).
  • Lil' old me :)

We were sitting at lunch and got to talk about plants:

No that's not an exploitation film or a whacky Hollywood comedy, but a documentary about two girls who joined the Black Tigers, the elite squad of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) a.k.a. Tamil Tigers. Rest behind cut because it's not very cheerful )

In more cheerful news, I got hailed on on the short way from the closest bus stop to home, and my thin silk skirt was thoroughly soaked and clung to my legs by the time I reached the door. I'm not complaining though - this is just another sign that IT'S SUMMER!!! \o/

Oh and I believe I forgot to mention that I'll have a two-week holiday from 7 July on. FINALLY!!! \o/ Speaking of which, the third and last volume of my "Serenity: Better Days" comic did arrive at the end of last week. Phew! Now I hope that my copy of "Shadow's Return" will get here soon... of course the slight delay in shipment was my own fault because I had forgotten to update my credit card's expiration date, although I was convinced I'd done it for all pre-ordered items... Duh!
